I posted a while back asking for a smaller budget and had my heart set on a 2012 ish BMW 320D (F30) which was probably out of my range.

I could be swayed towards other makes but am looking for the following:

* Decent power
* Good MPG's
* A 'premium' badge preferred (I'm a manager at work with a reputation to uphold) :D
* Good amount of space (for the wife and 2 boys)
* Not too big in size due to very limited drive space (3 series size at the largest)

If you need a particular badge to uphold a reputation perhaps it isn't the reputation you think :p

I would look at the C Class at this sort of money.

Lol. Still working on the reputation part. :D

Isn't Mercedes usually a car for older people? I'm still relatively young, mid thirties.

You need an Audi, people will look up to you, doors will open, you will have arrived. Ideally one with really big wheels and tints, best to get it debugged and tell people it's an RS then you're all set.

This.

Nothing screams I've made it "mid thirties" and am a "manager" like a middle of the range Audi.

You are awesome!

:D

My father (retired now) was an IT manager for a big company and trundled to work in a Land Rover Defender for 20 years, he still managed to have the respect of everyone and a great rep.

Don't be one of them guys...

Haha. Don't worry, I'm not. It was tongue in cheek.

My current car is 15 years old and certainly not a premium model. :)

Not sure why that matters?

It's important what people you don't know think. If you don't understand this, you'll never succeed at anything ever. The Jone's, they are VERY important to personal self worth and meaning.

So whats the opinion on each car?

Audi = dick
BMW = use to be a dick
Merc = retired dick
Porsche = little dick

??

I think the only impression you'd give by driving a premium car as a manager is that you're more of a dick that they thought.. Get something /practical like a golf gti, Audi a3 or what ever.. It'll fit your two boys and it'll be well built and fun to drive. And it won't stand out! My MD rides in on a 50cc old scooter to work. ;)

I've had a 5 Series since I was 21. Before that I had a Mondeo. I buy cars because I like them not because of what others may think.

I think OP if you want some serious advice how about a few more details about your requirements such as mileage, fuel choice etc. Although tongue in cheek, premium at this budget seems a bit silly. It won't get you a decent F30 nevermind a 5 series. Old C Class isn't a bad shout, A4 is terribly meh and feels very dated. Would look at something more practical and better value for money with a reasonable spec such as a Mondeo, Octavia, Golf, Mazda 6 etc. Be realistic about what you can get for your budget. Do you just want a badge or actually something with a bit of spec.

According to your needs a poverty spec 320d in white would suit your needs. Also got to make sure it's the "M Sport" as well.

Otherwise at your budget you can get a decent spec e90, my manager at work picked up a 325i 60 plate e90 with really nice spec for £10.5k, like you he has two children as well. Or you could look at a Mercedes equivalent.

They buy old Porsches for the challenge on wet roundabouts. :p

I recommend a white 4 door with a detuned 2.0l diesel engine. Black wheels, tints.. preferably German.
