Hi all my son wants to upgrade his pc and frankly I'm a little out of touch with what's what these days,so would like some advice please

he wants it mainly for gaming (arc, battlefield etc)

this is what he currently has.

cpu i5 3350p
mother board Foxconn 2ada
8gb ddr3
nvida ge force 970

his money for xmas is limited and he cant upgrade processor motherboard and ram so where is his money best spent with future upgrades in mind.

thanks in advance

250/500GB SSD for OS and favourite games if still on mechanical hard drive (keep for extra storage).

The 970 is good (@ 1080p res?).

Whats the budget?

The machine could benefit from mobo/cpu/ram at some point, but of course this is a large expenditure. An SSD would give you the best improvement for the money by far (~£60 for 250gb). The 970 is a fine card already.

So yea, go with Danny75's suggestion.

yes its 1080p what motherboard should I be looking at

I thought he couldn't upgrade the processor, motherboard and RAM just now?

Anyway, no point in only upgrading motherboard if the existing one is working, if you're going to keep the same processor. Only upgrade processor and motherboard at the same time.

An i5-4xxx and an Intel Series 8 or 9 motherboard is still an excellent choice and the DDR3 RAM could be re-used. But only if there's something wrong with the present CPU/mobo. Otherwise wait till next year's offerings.

What sort of budget are you working with? What hard drives/SSD's does he currently have? What power supply and in what case?

its a standard hp case he is looking at something like nzxt h440 case but reckons the motherboard will not fit which is why he is looking to change it is this correct ?

the hdd is a standard 1 tb and a corsair 500w power supply

I guess about 400 to spend if he uses his xmas and birthday money.
