Hey all,

We are looking for a Mondeo top spec with Xenons as standard. Diesel around £5k ish. The Xenons are important due to the amount of miles at night.

What should I be checking or asking?

Many thanks in advance to all replies.

And yes, OMG SOMEONE IS ACTUALLY GETTING A MONDEO!!!

Great - The joys of posting from a mobile device and not realising you were browsing GD previously!

Mods: I'm sorry - Will poo through my own letterbox. Please could you move it :)?

My old TDCi did funny things like go into limp mode unexpectedly and I was forever nervous about the injectors failing. Check the tyre pressures constantly, a flat low profile tyre looks exactly like an inflated one.
Other than that a lovely car.

Oh and dual mass flywheel, it'll sound wobbley or something if that is wrecked.

Thrash the nads off it for a few hundred metres then back to normal and see if does anything odd. I forget what that was checking for.

Seems quite expensive given the undesirable colour. How many miles do u do OP? As u can get the petrol 2.0 Titanium X on a 2008 for 5k with 60-70k miles on. Will cause u far less problems aswell.

Injectors do seem to be a issue reading online. DMF is with all diesels? Or is this engine particularly prone to it failing? If you remember what it is, let me know!

Thanks for the advice :)

30k :D

I wanted a petrol but unfortunately relocation is out of the question. I wasn't too bothered about the colour but now you mention it, it could be a potential bartering point.

Cheers for the advice - What do you think a fair price for it is?

30k miles a year  If u have cash I would want it for 4K with that mileage and colour. See how much service history it has and how many owners. Best taking it for a test drive see how it feels.

My old mondeo ('07 TDCi) had covered nearly 200K of almost all motorway miles on the same clutch, DMF, injectors & turbo and still felt tight (had the entire history since new in a folder), yet ones that are only driven 5 miles to the shops and back will have those bits fail much earlier than 200k, more like every 40-50K.

Checking the clutch for noise when at the biting point and blue smoke on start up (injectors or turbo seal) is a start though as any of those is a £500-£1k bill!

Is this on cold start only?

You can most easily tell through the lack of headlight washers. That, and those projectors are the halogen AFS (bendy lights - they move as you turn the steering wheel) ones - you can see they're a slightly different shape. They'll still be far superior to the regular halogen reflector setup, though.

It's a shame they didn't fit the bi-xenons with the AFS system, that'd be great. But I suppose you could always retrofit a decent HID kit...

I guess the risk is that they fail MOT but then considering the amount of cars on.the road with them..... :p

The only issue with moving to Sport is that from my understanding, it has sport suspension too?

So does that one, since it looks like it has the sports appearance pack :).

And this is why I asked Motors!

I might still go and look at it. The Xenons is another bartering point. I'm thinking I can stick Phillips X-treme Vision in and have a similar effect.

Car shopping is a pain. So difficult to find exactly what you want at a decent price!

From my experience, no bulbs, no matter how many claims the manufacturer makes, will be as good as proper xenons.

I tried Phillips Xtreme Vision and Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited's in my old car, and neither of them were noticeably better than the cheap ones I got from GSF.

That was sorta what I was hoping to hear. My mentality to get Xenons was that they are far superior then halogens. So knowing that drives me to find one with Xenons.
