Final Fantasy VII Remake

Not sure I like the look of the combat, but I had resigned to the fact it would not be like the original.

Didn't someone say quite some time ago that with Final Fantasy 7 HD coming for PC (or others I can't remember) that this new remake wouldn't be the same.

The woman in that clip is Elyse Willems. She plays games. GameTrailers original shows are excellent, I do recommend watching some of their stuff. They recently finished a playthrough of FFVII on their twitch for example.

Was afraid the active time combat mechanic would be dropped but perhaps what we see in this new trailer is an improved version? I'm sure the designers had a lot of discussion about every aspect of the remake, especially that component, as highly successful games are now more action orientated.

The only thing I'm feeling unsure about is the new look for Barret. Seems they're tryin to make him too cool and not gruff enough. Someone made the comment about his gun before and I agree the stubby barrel would have been more authentic! Get rid of those shades and give me more stubble!

Looks awesome. Will buy.

Hope they put enough nuance in the combat, as it could otherwise get a little weary. There was a lot of depth to the old system - losing that would be a downer.

Characters look ok to me. Including barret.

I might play it with Japanese voices and subtitles (or no voices, possibly), though.

FF7 wasn't turned based before, it was "active".

That looked..... Iffy. Do not want.
The active part of it was really just a riff on a more pure turn-based system, but in a lot of the games, you could set it from 'Active' to 'Wait', which basically was turn-based with a refill meter. The point is though - you controlled your whole party's actions as and when their 'turn' came up. That's why it's still somewhat considered turn-based.

This^ I was chatting with a friend earlier saying i dislike the look of the combat style they have opted for in this, I hope they have a toggle for combat style :) The whole teleporting around stuff and slashing away looks really **** sadly.

As almost everyone else has said, the combat might be the reason I don't get this after all.

I've completed this a few times over the years, still love it, might even do it again soon.

This looks beautiful, and you have to accept some changes in character design with the addition of the voice acting and the exponentially improved technology, but the complete change in such a huge part of the way the game plays makes it an entirely different game.

Hilarious, I don't know if I care enough, but maybe it's not the worst thing in the world that the combat is more twitchy.

But then its just a sign of the times that people get bored quickly.

Yeah I love the turn based combat of the original, and I think it only has to be slightly tweaked and updated to feel fresh.

I would be lying of I said I wasn't excited about this though.

They've announced its going to be episodic!

"the publisher said it needed to make the game episodic to avoid anything being cut, and to allow the company time to create entirely new sections milk it for as much money as possible".

Sorry, too cynical?

It's a bit cynical, but it's absolutely correct. However, it's a bit risky in the sense people might not like the first one and then not purchase any more.
