Hi guys,

I am considering (but not set on) upgrading to a 980TI SLI configuration, and am just wondering what you would recommend as a minimum PSU.

I currently have a Superflower Green 750w PSU, running an overclocked 4790k (4.4 all cores) and a 970.

What res do you play in? 980Ti SLI is a huge outlay and massive power. You'd need to be 1440 at least or 4k probably.
 
I only have a 1080p Screen, but i would use the Nvidia emulated 1440p effect. Which can look nice.

The main reason for the upgrade is to be ready for Oculus rift in the new yearm Which is why i said (not set on) because i may wait until the next gen Nvidia GPU's, or possibly the Fury X x2.
 
980Ti's in SLI are wasted at 1440p, especially DSR....unless you are running 144hz.

As for oculus, you are better off upgrading when the hardware is available. You might find AMD or Nvidia put better compatibility between their next GPUs and VR.

I had thought similar.

I know for certain that whatever we are using for VR, it has to be able to push 90fps on two 1200 x 1080 screens, as the Oculus Rift CV1 is going to be 90hz.
 
Something like a corsair ax860 or similar quality PSU would drive those puppies fine. I got one of these myself and the fans doesnt even turn on when i game on my 980ti which means my system draws less than 50% of its rated wattage.. im sure the last 50% would be enough to power one more 980ti. The only exception to this is properly heavy OCed(1500+) core 980tis but on the flip side of that the AX860 can be pushed to over 1000watts of throughput before it shuts down itself.

Just for reference my system is OCed the following
CPU 4,4ghz @1.28v (bad sample)
GPU +211 core, +300 memory
Also powers 3x 140mm corsair AF 140, 2x Cougar vortex, 2x Noctua NF-12s, 1x WD Blue HDD,1x850 Evo and 1x 840 evo

Thankyou for that.

I probably wouldn't be overclocking them at all, but would go with an aftermarket model for the better cooling solution they offer (possibly G1's or whatever is on offer!)

Look at the EVGA PSUs range as well. They are essentially rebadged SuperFlower units, but they warranty is better, an also if anything goes wrong, you'd only need to rma to the newly open UK support office, wherease for the SuperFlower you would probably have to wait for it to get rma back to Taiwan.
