We are told from a young age that 'overpopulation' will become a huge issue in our lifetime. Too many people = Bad.
Seems like this is only drummed in to you in the UK however.
If by only in the UK you mean the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation and United States of America
All of those have severely declining birth rates yet all countries outside of those have ever increasing birth rates like mainly Hindu and muslim countries as they encourage large families.
I stand correctedIt is true though, isn't it? I remember a few horror stories being told to me as a schoolkid about a future on an overpopulated planet where people went to war over water and food supplies ....
It seems odd now the government seems to want us to have more than one or two kids ....

They don't all have severely declining birth rates.

The birth rates have severely declined, just because they have levelled out in recent years, the birth rate is still way below the "2" you need(other than France). Which means a declining population. However our economics are based on an increasing population so even France with it's static population is in a bad way.
He said severely declining birth rates. Stable low fertility (and increasing in some cases) for the past 30 years is not that. Most countries that have experienced lowest low fertility are now moving back towards replacement level and it is the rest of the world, particularly developing countries, that are experiencing declining fertility.
Those you showed are only from 2007.
However the temporary bounce back is from immigration. However there birthdates also decline after a few generations of Integration. So it's still only a temporary fix.
And as you say birth rates are declining globally so at some point even immigration is not going to bolster the figures.
I've never heard anyone with kids actually say they regret having them. It makes me wonder if they genuinely feel that, or if they feel they couldn't say something so risky.

There are quite a few reasons, the main ones being education, high divorce rates and the dilution of traditional values.
