Final Fantasy VII Remake

hmm, i'm confused about what the combat system is. Also episodes! god dammit.

I initially thought it was in the style of a spectacle fighter but, looking again, I notice a menu selection, so it's probably not as far from the original as feared.

Episodic is disappointing. Can see how you'd do it for the Midgar bit, but hard to see it working for the open world without feeling really annoying.

i am quite easy to please when it comes to games

but episodes... not really interested.

i would rather wait x amount of years for a fully released product

Episodic, I'm definitely out. I'd consider a purchase in the distant future if/when all are released and discounted.

I can see this flopping hard now unless the feedback on this decision is strong.

Now I can see past the combat.....FF7 was ALL about the story and characters for me and as long as they kept the Materia and Limit Break system, they can mix up the combat style all they like.

But EPISODIC.....WTF! This isn't a TV drama....the story isn't that huge that it cant be put into one game....terrible decision if they end up doing that.

Must be one of the few who doesn't mind lol. My favourite game of all time so an automatic purchase no matter what its like. I can see why they have gone episodic though. The game is absolutely huge especially when your going to create every single area in full 3D with apparently more explorable parts than the original game.
As someone stated on another forum imagine trying to create every single enemy and battle in this game from the original. That there will be a huge undertaking. More so than anything else in this game when you have to recreate every single fight in a new style.

Then take their time and release it as the full game?

Every game developed requires time to create all the 3d assets involved.....in terms of size, FF7 wasn't HUGE by todays standards.

I will buy them, because FF7 was also one of my all time favourite games, but Episodes sounds like a cash grab from a company that seems to have ruined the series since taking it from Squaresoft IMO.

And who wants to play an RPG for a few hours, only for the experience to stop with "to be continued" and then not get the next part for 6 months?

Untill we know more its silly to jump to conclusions but the original game is certainly a huge game made easier by having prerendered backgrounds. Recreating all of that in full 3D will be a huge undertaking. We also dont know how long in length each episode will be. You can of course wait 5 years or however long it will take to release all the episodes or just buy each episode as it comes out. Your not really losing out in anyway apart from the people who want to play it earlier will get that chance.

This is starting to sound like a nightmare.
Can't believe people are still positive about this.

Why jump to conclusions from very early tidbits? If you're a big FF VII fan I don't understand why you wouldn't be excited over a remake.

I'll be buying it no doubt about it. It's my all time fav game. The episodes thing is a little disappointing but I understand the reason behind it.

What if that means waiting an additional 3 years? I'm happy to pay in installments if it means receiving the same quality game. For hypothetical reasons what is to say we will have 3 episodes at £20 each or waiting those 3 years and paying £60.

I also don't think they have the number of people working on this as many might assume.

Everyone is making snap judgments because it's not what we want to hear, people should calm down and wait until we have a lot more information.

I'm pretty sure some of the people working on this game have the same memories as us and are as passionate as those who think so highly of the original.

I played FF7 a few years after 8 and indeed 10. The graphics didn't put me off in the slightest.

It was an excellent game, of course. I'm not excited about a remake. I don't expect a remake to make the experience better. The graphics, sure, but the experience was already brilliant.

It's like reading a great book, and then you learn it's to be made into a film. Do you expect the film to be better? A lot of us don't. Sometimes, you can't significantly improve something just because you have better tech, better visuals, or A-list actors.

Some things were already great.

Sounds more of a re-imagining rather than a remake.
Yep. It's a game 'based on' FFVII.

Except Square has done very little over the past 5-10 years to suggest they are remotely in touch with what their fans want or enjoy.

Lost Odyssey was a way better Final Fantasy than anything we got last generation.

It does smack a bit of wanting to rush it out.

Episodes, changed combat, I feel they are trying to release something new but being lazy and using a convenient tag to lure people in.

On the plus side of it being episodic I can completely ignore it until it comes as a full package and by then there'll be plenty of reviews around :p

Not making a snap judgment......as I think the game (or rather hope) will be good.....but rather commenting on the idea of it being put out in Episodes.

I personally think an open world RPG game shouldn't be done in episodes....doesn't make sense to me, that a game of this style would come out in such a way.

I'd like to buy the FF7 PS4 box, knowing the whole experience is there ready to go....not having it interrupted with "to be continued" and "in the last episode of FF7" followed by cut scenes of what happened in the last episode... a la Resident Evil Revelations 2

And if the argument is wait an additional 3 years for the complete game, that would suggest the Episodes would be spread out over 3 years?

Just simply giving my opinion on Episodes, which I don't think FF7 should be broken up in that way.

Exactly. Resident Evil Revelations 2 was just made worse by making it episodic. It adds nothing and takes away a lot. Cannot get immersed into a game like that.

Shame they want to take FF7 Remake down that route. They will need to make XP you get from levelling from one episode to the next to be a huge difference or people will keep playing episode 1 while waiting and end up with a high level making episode 2 easy. Unless they remove XP also from the game?
