Constant drone from ASUS Turbo Gtx 970 at idle?

Okay, I returned it to Overclockers and they gave me a refund. What's a good alternative card which is whisper quiet at idle and won't break the bank?

The same one, only with a properly working fan?

TBH most of them have very good cooling. Maybe pick out something you like the look of and then look at reviews/ask here :)

Given the number of other people reporting the same issue with the same card, I think it's an issue with the card itself so I'm not going to buy the same.

I'm currently look at these cards to replace it with, thoughts?

Gigabyte Windforce OC Gtx 970
Asus Radeon r9-390 Strix

Edit: actually I think this has gone onto a new topic so I've started a new thread; please reply there instead.

Just a bit of info about this card and the fan. I sent my original card back and put in the replacement today, it still has the same issue, but not quite as loud as the previous one.

I guess I need to decide if I want to live with the noise or return it for now and wait for another good deal on a gtx970.

I very glad I swapped mine for a different kind of card, I got an Asus 970 Strix to replace it. It's utterly silent at idle and let's out a pleasant purr while gaming, it's true the fans are loud when they go full pelt but, as yet, it hasn't needed them even when gaming (in the whole five hours I've had the thing). And, including the £20 cashback, it's only a £10 more than the Black Friday price on the Turbo OC.
