Z5500 replacement - anything close?

Hi guys,

I've had my Logitech Z5500s for the better part of 9 years now, and unfortunately I've had to decommission them for the last 8-10 months, as there's a clearly audible 'hum' sound coming from the subwoofer.

These are way past any warranty and obviously Logitech themselves no longer produce this set, so a replacement Z5500 sub doesn't seem an option.

Is there anything out these days that would come anywhere close (or preferably even exceed!) the sound quality and bass of these things, without costing £300+?

Cheers!

Z906 is as close as you'll get. I bought a used set when my 5450s broke. You may find the necessary part or system on the bay.

My bad :) I should probably have clarified that I don't necessarily need a 5.1 setup (I was running my z5500s in dual-stereo mode and have all the speakers in front of me as opposed to surrounding me) - I was mainly looking to see what a decent replacement was, possibly something released recently with better technology inside?
Are the 906s worth dropping another £275 on if I'm not particularly going to Use the 5.1?

As above, have a look for a good amp and hifi. Richer Sounds are imo the gold standard for this, at least they were when I bought my KEF bookself speakers and Cambridge Audio SR10.

corsair sp2500 i think they are my mate has got them very loud and as much bass as you can handle also very clear!

If you don't want to splash too much money, I've heard the new Logitech Z533s (2.1) are supposed to be quite good.

Can't you pickup a replacement sub?

I'm pretty sure I can't get a replacement Z5500 sub, as for a sub from another company/brand/model of speakers, I wouldn't have the slightest clue what to swap it out for, as the sub on these also doubles as the amplifier And the power source for the control panel. Would have to be something that could replace all of that in one :/

^^ This. If you don't want the hassle of setting up a separate amp etc then I can vouch for the Corsair SP2500's, great set of 2.1 speakers. There's also a Chinese firm called Edifier that do good quality computer speakers at a reasonable price point - Link

Thanks for all your responses guys :) Guess I'll look up the SP2500s a bit more, but in the meantime if anyone does have any experience with bookshelf speakers and a separate amp, I'm all ears! Would like to spend less than £250 if possible. Thanks again!

Oo thanks, those look nice! As they're powered though, I'm assuming they operate in 2.0 mode, without a sub option? Coming from the Stupidly loud Z5500's bass, would that be an issue for me do you think?
edit: Holy crap, £600 new..£490 on the bay.. a bit out of my ideal price range (by a bit, I do mean more than double lol)

Like I said secondhand prices...;)
It mainly only the wireless ones that go for the very high prices

They not going have the very bloomy base like the z5500 setup...

I think you'll definitely need to go with a 2.1 setup, trust me you'll miss the bass that you've become accustomed to ;)

Do Logitech not offer a repair service? Maybe there's someone local to you who does music equipment repairs?
