Hi, am hopefully (been a right pain) getting a new golf GTE through a lease scheme at work. Anyone got one and want to share any tips?

Meant to say hopefully its arriving in a couple of weeks, solid black. Hopefully my commute is only 12 miles round trip so no fuel required unless I hit the GTE mode. Cant wait. Just hope the weather doesn't zap the batteries bad, 30mile range we will see.

That is a lot of 'hopefully' statements :p
Surely you checked the distance to work and back before ordering?

Two weeks is damn quick !!!

I think they look quite nice, reviews seem good but I would still rather have the GTI though as I don't commute to work by car.

Yes was on a special offer. Daily miles are low and I have a fast charge point at work so I can top up free. All depends on how heavy my right foot is but even in pure electric is 100+BHP or 204 with the petrol. Running costs much reduced from the GTI so makes more sense around town with lots of stop start.

Bloke has a white one at work, cheap company car!

It's nice and has quite a bit of poke in GTE mode, the power delivery is nice and constant. The engine doesn't sound great as it's a 1.4 and it sounds highly resonated with it being so quiet. It's quite disconcerting pulling away and not hearing any engine.

It has one of the better charge points being styled into the front badge and the general blue styling on the sticking and scuff plates is a nice touch! All the red accents are blue!

The door sound is nice and solid. The radar cruise is fantastic. The guy loves the iPhone app for the car and says that he gets 100mpg or something on the way to work. If you do anything spirited though it's abysmal and much worse than my ST.

Isn't engine noise in GTE mode mostly fake from one of those Soundaktor thing anyways? Surely they can make it sounds pretty nice that way? Guess I find out tmrw :D

The fake sound is ok but it's mainly from outside the car. The engine sounds weak! :p

Thanks Logsi for the feedback. Not worried about the noise Id sooner have it quiet and chilled rather than all noise and no poke. Hopefully should be ready for delivery next week so almost in time for my birthday. Not many people seem to have them so getting owner feedback other than on the VW ev car forums is limited.

It's kak, first thing I did was to spend 5minutes unplugging the thing and get rid of the false sound. I can not understand whey car makers are fitting these terrible things.

Is it synthesised in the GTE or pumped in from a microphone on the inlet like my ST?

It is a small surface mount speaker in the engine bay attached to the firewall/bulkhead. On the latest Discovery systems there is an option to change the volume level.

Arent these 150BHP? I've been intrigued by it myself and think it looks good.

The only thing that puts me off is this 1.4 engine, is it the same one (Turbo'ed and Charged) which seems to have reliability issues (At least on t'net)

Edit: The 1.4 is 148BHP and the Electric motor is 101BHP, but a combined total output of 201BHP - Weird!

isn't it something that vibrates the windscreen? I remember reading about something like that in the newer golfs, supposidly gives the car a lower, beefier, engine note.

The soundaktor unit vibrates the windscreen to give the engine a beefier sound. There are 4 settings to change the amount of sound it produces.

It's actually pretty good, in my opinion.
When my Dad drove my car he said the engine sounded fabulous - he didn't know it was faked. He's coming from a BMW 650i (4.8 V8).

Think about the powercurves. You don't get peaks at the same point.
