What to do, two job offers how to handle this..

Just put the weeks notice in.

If the company you worked for didn't like you they would be giving you 24 hrs notice and dropping you in an instant.

Probation periods are for both parties, just tell them thanks but no thanks, you don't need to justify anything to them.

Well seeing as I had got it in writing about company b and the role, I informed company a and they weren't overly happy asked me to work the week out and then go... I didn't mention anything about other jobs, just said its not what I expected it to be ....

So tomorrow is my last day, then I have a few weeks off , as company b want me to start 4th jan 2016 then I'm back to work. I really didn't like doing that, the guilt was a lot. I knew deep down soon as company b sent written confirmation I'd be leaving but I couldn't risk not going to company a without written confirmation from company b. But it was what it was, and its done now..

But talk about guilt, never felt as much guilt like I have with this one before... But I needed to look after myself. Company b is where I really wanted to go. And now I have the emails to confirm I've got the role along with contract no point in sticking it out with company a.

Company A sounds pretty bad but how can they be mad if they cant keep staff happy and motivated? If I walked into a place and was told how bad it is by other staff I wouldn't hang about. No one would. That's Company A's issue.

Congrats anyway on Company B.

Maybe as a nice thing for all the other staff take in a few sweet treats from a cheap supermarket to say "thanks for the warning"

Company A wouldn't think twice about getting rid of you during your probation if circumstances change, likewise you shouldn't feel too guilty about your own circumstances changing :)

Best of luck in the new role :)

jeeze don't feel guilty about it - it is up to them to make the job attractive if having a high turnover is an issue for them

Yeah true... They need to provide better ways of working... I couldn't believe how I was expected to work. Going into the office first to then collect to them pretty much drive back the way youd come into work was crazy, and the time management system, it felt so draconian... I've worked in IT for 25 years , never seen a system like that before..

Company b is a very large company which I won't mentioned, but its well respected ,I googled company a and company b for employee reviews yesterday. Company a had shocking reprots but company b was much more favorable on average.

To be fair I was told company a was poor to work for. Still didn't make the guilt any easier. But its done now. Really looking forward to working for the new company, role is just want j wanted....

Well that was a pretty un-comfortable final day at work today, no idea why they had me work today, as they pretty much left me alone, I had no internet access as they'd locked my access out, they had me fill in some reason for leaving form - which I couldn't really answer to much degree as I'd only done a week with them and then at 5:30 they took my door pass and escorted me off the site, and that was it..

But did speak to company b hr /recruitment team and they are all set for me to start 4th Jan 2016. I didn't mention I'm now available as didn't want to raise any concerns as to why I'd suddenly become able to work with them at very short notice - 4th Jan 2016 had previously been agreed and I see no reason to mention anything to them about company a.

i'll leave company a off my CV and put the 30th November - 4th Jan 2016 gap down as redundancy leave and move on from it.

But the experience has now made me realise the value in a company that treats staff better and also you can't put a price on working locally. It will be fantastic to get back to work and only have a 10 - 15 mins drive each day, heck I reckon I could walk it in 30 mins - its that close to my home..

Enjoy the extended (un expected) xmas break with my daughter I guess.

I know how you feel with such a short stay. I left a job of 5 years to go to a smaller sub contract place (i was a cnc programmer/operator at the time) for new challenges. They lied to get me there, found the job to be a whole different challenge to what it should have been. I lasted 2 full weeks, then after yet another run in with a so called team leader, and so called manager on the friday, i went back monday purely to pick my toolbox up. New job within the week and ended up going to a much better role with far better pay in another company.

It makes you very wary of trusting companies, and like you, i was kindof warned that were not the best.

You live and learn :D
