Hi.

Been looking at new lease cars (yes leasing suits me), and im ideally after a small hatch, the golf looks nice to me (i use to have a GTI years ago for a bit)

anyway, the option available Golf GTD 2.0 5dr (new)
yay or nay?

thanks

Update:

After discussing with the wife, my car will be just used for work , something kids can't wreck, ideally a new car that's maintained or got cover as were sick of issues we've had with ours
Requirements:

15,000 PA mileage (this includes breathing space)
This will just be used for commuting work (we have a family car for weekends/school)
Something nice to drive/look at, I like the golf style
Diesel preferred
Tyre pressure monitor - I know I'm lazy
Wife really doesn't want another ford

If you do 20,000+ miles a year it's unlikely a personal lease really does suit you, there will likely be cheaper ways to drive the same car. Leasing gets expensive fast with big mileage.

Tell us the budget and the requirements and we might be able to help.

Obviously it's a decent car but can't tell you if it's the best choice or not based on the info you've given can we? :p

For 15k mileage I'd still go for one of the petrol models, so Golf GTi/Skoda VRS/whatever Leon is similar. Assuming the cost to lease would be similar as there are some good deals on the diesel equiv models (saw the Leon very cheap somewhere last month).

Personally prefer the Golf out of all of them but not always going to be the cheapest of the deals.

I've got a GTD on a 2 year deal at work and it's nice, but would just be better if it was the GTi.

The problem with leases is that the petrol models are rarely as good value. Diesel residuals are much stronger so are cheaper to lease. Look at the VRS - I very much doubt you'd get a petrol for 200 quid a month! As fox said, at that mileage leasing will be expensive anyway - so putting the money into a loan and buying used would be the best option

You can get anything for £200 a month with a high initial payment. As always monthly cost doesn't tell the full picture.

E.g. My Golf R could be £200 a month with a £2.2k initial. Which isn't far off the vRS deal posted above.

Driven a couple of GTD's in the last year, really nice car inside and easy to drive. Had a look at leasing costs when pricing up getting the wife a new car recently (decided to go down the range somewhat to save money so we could still have a few holidays a year!). In the same price bracket was the A220d AMG which is also a very nice place to be, I preferred it to the golf for looks and comfort and if we had stayed within the original budget it's probably what I would have ordered. Down the price range was the Seat Leon FR 184, felt pretty much the same as the golf for driving but was a fair bit cheaper.

Considered the Skoda's but the wife wasn't keen on them or the Seat so they both went out the window fairly early on. Also couldnt have an Audi A3 as the neighbours have got one  (The interior didn't really do much for me either). The same type of money would also have got us in a slightly less spirited C class but the size of the car put the wife off.

Ended up with an a180d Sport as I got a very good deal on a 2 year lease, and to be honest my days of spirited driving are pretty much over with a dreary commute across the M1/M62 every day.
