De-lidding 4690K - CLP or CLU or Hydronaut?

Currently got a tube of Hydronaut and the good old AS5.

I'm going to be de-lidding my 4690K, 4.6 @ 1.32V results in 90C with my X61.

Having spent a few hours googling de-lidding, it seems half the gain is the reduction of the TIM distance between the IHS and the die, with the rest a better paste..

Question is... do I bother getting one of the Coollaboratory pastes over they Hydronaut and if so, which one?

The fact that both the Coollaboratory pastes are conductive and the proximity of the FIVRs on the die makes me weary.

Any thoughts?

IM still using liquid pro, i dont think theres any difference between ultra and pro, ultra is newer so i would try that.

Dont worry about it been conductive, ya basically spread it so thin that there no chance of it getting anywhere else. Its not like normal paste when ya put a blob and let it spread out, ya basically just smearing the smallest amount possible on there.

Ive just finished reapplying my CLP a few mins ago, loving the temps in this weather, getting 24 idle and mid 30s in GTA, 40s with real bench.

edit: if ya worried about the conductivity, get some nail vanish and use it to insulate the caps on the chip, sumone suggested it to me a while back so i did it this time around instead of the usual electrical tape.

ultra is slightly thicker than the pro

im still using pro myself too,can cover the line of transistors with non conductive mx4 paste or a thin slither of electrical tape

I used clp between the die/lid and again between the top of the lid and cooler heatsink

don't use it on aluminium or copper though it will eat into it,only stainless or nickel plated coolers

I use it on the cooler aswell but it does mean i have to lap it every time i take it off. Takes a bit extra time but gains a few more degrees so might aswell :)

volts seem high for 4.6, maybe it's just a duff chip?

Probably... Voltage depends on what you test with...

4.6 with 1.25 running FSX was fine, but needs much more for things like Linpack (non AVX).

Last thing I overclocked was a Core 2 Duo, this just crashes instead of generating errors which is annoying!! Whea BSOD.

Tried 4.7 with 1.325 and crashed running AIDA64.

Probably go for CLU.
