Not a single thread on these, incredibly enough!

In or out in today's dinner wear?

I've got a dark burgundy tie and cummerbund set and with party season upon us, I'm starting to wonder if the cummerbund should just be left to quietly die in the corner.

Personally I'd skip the Cummerbund.

Depends on the event and the crowd. I went to a ball with a load of Cambridge grads and would've been out of place without one; work xmas party, other way around.

For shoes you should only wear patent laceups (like in the pictures above), patent slippers, or velvet slippers.

One thing is, if you were to wear a cummerbund then don't go cheap, make sure it blends in nicely with your trousers, I feel those shiny black silk ones look hideous as they stand out too much

If going to a formal dinner or ball then patent leather works really well with a tux. Most women notice it and like that you went the extra mile to not look the same

I personally think it's nice, only if you can pull it off though. if you are middle aged and carrying a bit of weight they won't look right, but to a formal dinner they look superb and women like them.

At the recent black tie do I went to, I don't remember seeing cummerbunds being worn by anyone and there are at least 500+ men.
