The "plot" from the trailer seems to be "Lets do the same thing but bigger with no story but plenty of CGI" and as such I have absolutely no buzz for this film at all, not from the trailer or from just the thought of ID2.
I really hope I'm wrong as I loved the first film but I can't see this being a worthwhile sequel, it feels more like a "Lets do it for the money before our main stars are too old" type of movie.
ID is one of my two fave films but this looks a bit too serious as a sequel. Seems to lack the lighthearted aspect Will SMith brought to the original.
But as a standalone sci-fi/alien thing, it looks good, maybe a bit too similar to previous ones. I'm sure I've heard the line about "4th July being independence day for the world if we beat the alien" in another similar movie.
Not necessarily, that info was really only got from the president in a series of flashes through his mind. Doesn't mean he was correct that the entire species was contained in the mother-ship and the ships attacking earth. Plus even at the end of the battle you still see the f16's engaging enemy invader ships, quite possible more than one of them got away into space and brought back big brother.
In fairness, it doesn't have to do much to be better than the original.
I wonder if they will win this time by uploading a virus to the Apple-based mothership? (I knew there was a reason I don't use Apple, they are selling tech to our future alien overlords!)
Personally for me I would prefer it if the movie removed the 'cheese', but with Jeff Goldblum this is a necessity (the only performance of his that doesn't stink of Stilton IMO is in Cronenberg's ' The Fly')
Obviously I will watch it as will most of the posters on here who are indicating that it looks garbage.
Whoever thought releasing a needless sequel and shifting the focus to space battles with lazers in a year where Star Wars is going to be king needs a slap.
Feels like one of those cleverly marketed straight to DVD movies that look very similar to a major release in an attempt to fool people into buying them.
