Cummerbunds

I still wear one, I think they complete a dinner suit personally. It can also depend on the shirt/waistcoat/jacket combination you're wearing.

Again, personal preference but I think people who wear skinny black ties are more out of place than people with cummerbunds.

never knew what one was, googled and now i do. don't think i will ever wear one in my life, why? transition from trouser to shirt too harsh? wear a darker shirt :)

I personally think they finish off a black tie outfit quite well. It's all about creating a white v shape contrast moving up from the waist and hiding billowing shirts.

Oddly enough I only wear mine if I can finish off my outfit with my lorgnettes.
I'll be honest though, I don't half get some funny looks at my local wearing all this and a pair of jeans.

It depends on the weather and occasion for me. I tend to wear my waistcoat at Black-tie events in Winter, and the Cummerbund in summer, though either is acceptable.

If you're going to wear a Cummerbund incorrectly, or a high-vested waistcoat to a formal event you might as well just not show up .

that is a polite way of putting it - tis more like the contrast you mentioned and hiding billowing guts... :D
