I currently have fx 8350 with r9 390x. In battlefield im getting CPU at 97-100% and no headroom to stream the game. My GPU is fine so guess I need to relieve my bottleneck, I've been offered a good deal on my friend's old i7-3970x extreme edition cpu, question is what is a good board that doesn't cost the earth to use with this chip?

Most x79 boards are cheap atm . you can pick up a RIVE for £140 and lesser board can go for £80-100

load of poo.

the cheap x99 boards are £100+ right now as always happens the old tec takes off when lots of used cpu's hit the market. and the price of last gen board get stupid as there not in the shops any more.

the only way right now is x99 or z170
for the cost of an x79 build you get get a good i5 z170 build that will have a hell of a lot more power than the x79 build.
if you go high end x79 with an 8 core and so on then... x99 will cost the same for an 5820k build and again with have a load more power.

x79 is now dead for a reason.

the question here is what will the cpu cost you? its its £150 or more there is a lot better options out there.

I have a 3970x(4.7Ghz) with an Asus RIVE and a 3820 with a Rampage IV Formula, both are excellent boards, as is the Asus Pro.
Depending on the price your mate wants for the chip, these are the boards you want to be looking for.
I was looking at upgrading to X99, but in terms of gaming, there is nothing to be gained over what I have now.

well he said £100 for the chip and then if i sold my current fx 8350 and mobo could probably get around £60-70 hopefully so im in good stead for a relatively cheap upgrade which should make a massive difference against my current fx 8350 right?
