Hi all.

My system a mix old and new parts so I think the main things I need to upgrade is the motherboard, ram, cpu and hard drive.

My current system at the moment is.

Motherboard=MA790FXT-UD5P AM3 socket I think?

CPU=AMD 955

Hard drive=1TB low speed I think.

Ram=4GB 1600mhz ddr3

Gpu=AMD 290

PSU=EVGA 750W SuperNOVA GOLD

Case=Cooler Master CM 690 II
---------------------------------------------------------
I think the stuff worth saving is the gpu,psu and case?

I just need the rest and not what is good options maybe a bundle deal on ocuk site?

Thanks for any help.

M.2 drives are still overpriced given the small performance gain. He is keeping his R9 290 so a new GPU isn't required.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £480.46
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Plenty of cash left over for a decent cooler and more HDD storage if required

Hi thanks.
Gaming mostly 7days to die, space engineers, dcs world.

Is the 390 same as 290? I know the 290 only got 4GB vram but that should be good for a while?

I was looking at the amd build but don't mind about intel.
The Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz seems expensive vs the
Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz?

This what I came up with but not a clue on what good any more lol.

AMD chips do their job but Intels are far more superior and run cooler.

Thanks ExRayTed I did not think about soild state drives if they are worth it over normal HD?

@snips86x Do the clock speed matter intel 3.9 vs amd 4.7?

Thanks.

Absolutely.

Clock for clock 4 core intel beats 8 core AMD in most things (gaming included) so the speeds aren't comparable

Seems like intel top dog at the moment then lol.

Right so I am thinking 16gb ram but not sure if I need that yet.
Only because running little dedicated coop server space engineers when me and m8 play and space engineers says it needs 8GB but I have yet to see hit that yet on my games.

I am unsure about SSD drive but games like space engineers where it's always loading terrain/objects should help.

I did not want to overclock the cpu but if it's easy I will try it can anyone recommend me a good cpu cooler for the 6600K.

Currently using a old fxi sound card for 2.1 and headphones so the one I picked should be ok but anyone knows better alternative let me know :D
Thank you.

I got the 290 so I don't think it's worth changing that yet.

I was doing some reading up and ssd good for booting windows but I still not sure how much it will help with games.

Can some confirm something for me please some about this bundle deal https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...-6600k-bundle-20-pounds-saving-bu-021-gi.html

It says cpu cooler not included but I thought the retail version of any cpu comes with the basic heatsink/fan?

Thanks.

apparantly you dont get a retail cpu cooler with the new intels, being a K version you are more than likely to overclock it so they expect you to use a better cooler.

the cpu you have atm seems a few years old. just going intel is suppose to give you a huge boost, but going from something old on AMD to something new on intel is going to be as noticeable as and SSD would be.

SSD if big can be great for games. most of the loading i notice in games is sped up lots with an SSD.
