Good evening all I have today taken delivery of a new pc which I have had built for me (not overclockers) and everything is working great.

However I have noticed something I wasn't expecting in the photo which I have added below.

I am right in thinking they have removed the cover to the card? it looks as though they had difficulty fitting the card with the pump hoses in the way and decided to remove :(

besides cosmetics will the cover not being there cause any other issues?

Its a GeForce GTX 980.

I will give the supplier a call tomorrow I thought it would have had the green led 'Geforce GTX' visible

The 980 you got though looks to be one of the cost cutting *Budget* 980's which do not come with backplates or the green LED which is only found on the reference 980.

Ohh I see I'm not very technically minded but this could make sense. maybe I won't call them afterall then :)
I have checked the temps according to the NVidia software and seems to be all ok.

actually why dont you call them and ask them exactly what model you have and who the vendor is? that would clear things up as I thought the stock 980s came in a grey/silver coloured casing with the GTX led's in green....

What is the PC called? On the website? Don't link it because that is against the rules, but if it has a name which will allow us to search for it, (e.g Titan Devastator FX4300 8GB DDR3 System) we could probably see if you have got what you paid for or not! :)

As said twice previously, That is not the reference 980, This model the OP has is most likely the MSI OC V1 budget model 980 which doesn't come with a backplate, Metal housing or green LED to keep the costs down -

The invoice says its a "4GB NVIDIA GTX 980 Graphics Card, 2048 Cores, 3xDisplayPort 1xDVI 1xHDMI

So from that and also taking a look at the card today it looks as though what Dicehunter suggested is right.. Still I'm sure even if it is 'budget' it will do me.

Cheers guys
