Have you seen the new price for Sapphire R9 Nano? Currently on preorder ETA 18.12.15. I think it's a great price offering great value in top segment.

R9 Nano almost equals 980Ti at 4K if it get's enough cooling and does not throttle. No Nano here, just look at Fury pro results, they are the same:

Amazing value 20% quicker than 980GTX at 4K and almost the same price.

Only 4GB VRAM though, if it had 6GB+ I would consider it

A 980ti is 6GB so why not buy that and upgrade from your 3.5GB card? or are you just baiting?

The nano is aimed at itx builds so a niche market. The £399 price hopefully means the other AMD cards will also see price reductions soon.

OP compared the Nano to a 980Ti hence I made the comparison
The extra vram would only matter when there's enough GPU grunt, as in order get comfortable frame rate at 4K (i.e. minimum 45fps), a single 980Ti or Nano will need to have some graphic settings turned down, which would reduce the amount of memory used and won't go over 4GB anyway; it is only when getting two or more cards that the extra vram could potentially become benefitual, as there are more GPU grunt available thus allow the use of higher graphic settings (which would increase the amount of memory usage).

It's a bit like comparing a single 970 to single 390...the extra vram on the 390 wouldn't make much if any difference at 2560 res, but if going dual-GPU, then the extra vram on the 390 will allow the use of higher graphic settings at this res, whereas the 970 would potentially still unable to use the higher graphic settings due to the vram constraint.

So the question really is simply if people are going to buy one or two 980Ti/Nano to use.

With that said, the 980Ti is still going to own the Nano at dx11 and older titles at sub 4K res. Also it has much greater overclocking headroom and performance improvement from overclocking.

Doubling graphics cards doesn't double the amount of VRAM you have to use. For example if you had two Nano 4GB cards you would still only have a total of 4GB of vram to use.... unless things have changed

I believe (I might be wrong) that DX12 can unlock all the VRAM in crossfire configurations. (not sure about SLI).
So in DX12 2x 4GB card would indeed mean 8GB VRAM.

You misunderstand. He means that the the excess in VRAM you see in some cards only really shine when doubling up BECAUSE you have twice as much GPU grunt but your VRAM doesnt stack.

Hi there

No price drop, OcUK is just moving the prices down to clear as not selling. We will then only stock the Sapphire product going forward until an official price move is made.

These need to be MSRP of £389.99, hopefully it will happen in 2016. :)

Though technically possible, the game has to be optimised for it and it is anyone's guess at whether developers will bother accommodating the very tiny % of the market of which most wont even see the benefit. I doubt that devs will put that much effort into it as it will only be beneficial to people with multiple cards AND with too little VRAM.

Indeed. Until the day (if ever!) SLI/Crossfire and memory stacking work natively without the need of profiles/driver support, I simply don't see it happening.

That's how I read it, not him implying VRAM stacks but when you have x2 the GPU grunt you can turn the settings up even more which will probably utilise more than the 4GB, hence the 8GB 390 coming into it's own a bit more there.

Totally understandable and it is a bit of a niche product.

Had it released at that price, i am sure peoples tone of how the launch went would be very different.

The price premium was just too much for many and i remember many saying if it was sub £400 they would snap it up in an instant, only for those people to be very disappointed after RRP was announced.

Yes, agree with many in that the newer HBM cards should have been a bit cheaper at launch to get things moving in the right direction. I have always preferred AMD to be in the Best Bang For Your Buck category and not put themselves out in the Premier Product category....that will come later....hopefully. Lets walk before running, so to speak.
