The Apprentice 11 - starts Weds 14 Oct, 9pm, BBC1

combining an app with gaming isn't necessarily bad but her idea of people getting matched by some algo she seemingly hasn't come up with yet and wanting to play a games together then not see each other until the end of the day seems a bit flawed

in fact people coming up with app ideas but seemingly no skills to actually start implementing them are off to a bad start IMO... ideas are often worthless - tis the implementation that is important

tis silly the two strongest candidates have come a bit unstuck here - Richard isn't trustworthy, had a conflict of interest and was rightly sacked and Vana's business is just a silly gamble and frankly the people who would be the most vital to it haven't been hired yet

Joseph is going to be the safest of the lot... tis hardly a start up though or anything groundbreaking... he's basically going to end up running a reasonable size plumbing company if he wins.

I wasn't expecting Joseph to get to the final, but he's from my hometown so I'm rooting for him now :p

Let's be honest the level of contestants has been really low this year, and on any other day I doubt Sugar would go into business with them.

That's how I see it too - if Vana can somehow put together a reasonable app during the final then she'll win it, but that's going to be so difficult so I don't think she'll do it. Otherwise Joseph's safe and steady business will get the investment.

The game/date thing could be a good idea, but then I have to ask - if it really is such a revelation, why would you go on a public show like this and reveal it? What's stopping someone like Facebook swooping in with big dollars and launching the exact same thing?

A lack of arsedness.

Agreed. It's obvious he's going to go for the sane/only choice in Valentino ;) :D

Yeah he seems the only one that could actually give a return on the investment, even if his business probably wasn't what Lord Sugar was looking for from the start!

Regarding Vana's business - who would really want to use that? I think online dating works on the shallowness/judgey nature of it. No one is going to want to waste their time playing stupid games with people just to find out they look like a half chewed chip! I think just because she's discovered a quirky idea that hasn't been done before (probably for a reason) she thinks it will work, when in reality it's a complete non start.

Also, why is she paying £120k for app development? So pay a developer to make your app, get charged a fortune, then be left having to pay him again for any maintenance/updates? Why not just employ a designer and a developer for £2/3k a month each and go at it yourself?

I don't think she has a real grasp of the market or how hard it will be to tap into. It will certainly need a better idea than hers and a lot, lot, better execution that what she outlined in her business plan.

Their business plans have been really weak this year. Looks like it might be the least worst that will be chosen, although I think Joseph would be a good person for Lord Sugar to invest in.

That will be hilarious. You'll have 100 guys going for 1 girl. :p

Who'll turn out to be a male trolling them all! :D

It's not just making an app, she'll have to design a load of games as well. Game designing isn't as easy as it sounds since you have to jump through so many intellectual property hoops.

Just do a Candy Crush clone, which itself is a clone of Bejeweled (which is probably a clone of something else).

Thing is, we know what Vana is going to have to do in the final but what's Joseph going to do? To get his business off the ground he needs to come up with a brand, recruit some plumbers, buy some tools and vehicles, win some business. None of that is going to make great TV apart from maybe coming up with the brand.

I wonder if she has massively underestimated the amount of work required even to get this project to MVP...

Then you'll end up with 100 girls going after 1 gay man. :D

Exactly - get the women using your app because the money follows the women.

I can't be the only man whose spent a fortune on Foxy Bingo just as a way to meet women (joke ;) )

Joseph's plumbing enterprise could have good synergy with Sugar's property portfolio, so perhaps that's where Sugar is going ...
