Gigabyte seems to be the preferred brand from what I can make out, true?

not sure how important the clock speeds etc are on the different models

might have just been coincidence but the only pre-overclocked card I ever bought lasted the least amount of time - that was an EVGA

PCS+ 390 is also a great card.

Not sure what the ops feelings on AMD cards; gigabyte got decent support; but are we worried we're going to get a bunk card? :D

I've just always had Nvidia cards and seems like there's less to worry about with drivers on the 970

there's 4 or 5 GTX970 models from Gigabyte, the price difference isn't huge but is the most expensive really the best?

MSI would be an easier choice since there's only the 1!

Drivers are myth period.......both have issues :) honestly 229 for 390 is one to get......but if you want to spend more on 970; 60 pounds more....

you also get a free game with the PCS+ which you can sell if you already have it and pay even less....:) is 970 60 pounds worth more than 390.....nope specially if you wanted pay 20 more for 390X which is equal to 980.....

but if you really want to drop that amount msi isn't bad....personally that extra 60 is ssd right there ;)

That's what's I'm thinking. People put after sales support higher than performance.

Of course they do. This is why the whole world doesn't drive Italian cars.

Reliability/give a crap if it breaks come very high on my list whenever I am buying hardware.

Given most of these companies will do absolutely anything to sell a customer a product, yet hardly anything when it goes wrong I am not surprised.

And the only two companies you can truly depend on when the crap hits the fan are Gigabyte and EVGA. As thus if I ever bought another Nvidia GPU (and I certainly don't rule it out) then my 'go to' companies would be Giga and EVGA, especially now that EVGA are taking their UK customers seriously and providing a proper RMA proceedure.

I'd get the g1 gaming 970 if it was me, only reason i got the xtreme gaming in all honesty was its fancy lights and extra features which just help give me more peace of mind but its not needed.

features for example are the pcb coating protecting it from wc leaks, the titan x chokes and capacitors and also the fact that the xtreme gaming are hand picked (binned?) cards so in theory they should be good clockers
