Thinking of moving somewhere else in the UK for a bit, a mate has suggested bristol. Do any of you lot live there and would you recommend it?

I like lively places, lots of stuff to do and people out doing stuff.

What are the nice areas and what areas should be avoided?

Are property prices insane there?

Brilliant.

Anything you want, there's an area you can do it.

Houses prices are insane.

Areas, depends how much and what you want.

Traffic is hideous though and public transport isn't very good.

I can't see myself leaving here for a long time. It's brilliant. Everywhere else seems so... Middle of the road.

Traffic in any city is pretty hideous at rush hour. House prices are much higher than in, say, Cardiff.

Brizzle's great - love that accent.

Heard St Pauls wasn't a great place to live, but that area where that weird bloke who didn't kill that girl lives/lived was nice.

St. Paul's isn't too bad it's definitely being gentrified. Also, what an epic description of Clifton :p

Plenty of well paid work, high house prices.

It is what you want it to be really, there is a great variety to it and I love living here.

Haha brilliant, I haven't seen that before.

Big Jeff, that's who he is.
And Grecian is rubbish, Rita is the kebab of choice. Or Jolly fryers up in horefield

As an NHS worker, the house prices in Bristol are a joke. Due to the high cost of housing, rent is also eye watering if you want to live anywhere remotely near the biggest employers. It's not the most friendly of places either but thats probably because I'm a northerner and everyone actually says hello to each other where I'm from lol.

It's not because you are a northerner, its a very unfriendly place to live.

Couldn't agree more with pretty much all of this. House prices and Renting down here is pretty expensive, and people are mostly miserable down here so far... I'm another northerner :p Moved down here just over a year ago. Other than this I do like it down here! :)

Avoid:
St Pauls
Montpellier
Knowle West
Hartcliffe
Parts of Southmead
Eastville
Easton

Places to live really depends on your budget.... Parts of Bristol are insanely expensive, others just crazily expensive.

The traffic is meant to be the worst in the country, but if you know your way around it's not that bad, as you can generally get around on the back roads. with the exception of Gloucester Road where everyone does the same so all the back roads get jammed too!

Not just Bristol itself :( I live a bit south of Bristol - awhile back they did a bit of redevelopment including improving transport links to Bristol and consequently rent and house prices have rocketed - increasing at twice the national average - houses that not that long ago were fetching 150K are going for 400K+.

It's not that bad for traffic is it? I suppose I don't drive at peak times. Commuting into Filton Road is total death by around 8:15am but just drive earlier tbh :p

St Pauls and Montpellier are probably going to be the next Totterdown / St. Werburghs.
