Hi guys,

I'm in the position of I could do with a new phone. Had my iPhone 5 for 3 years now and its starting to give up the ghost. Trouble is, i have no idea what to go for.

I really like the iPhone 6&6+'s however for the past few weeks apple music and my apple ID has been giving me nightmares. This does seem to be sorted out at the moment, but we'll see.

It won't be a brand new phone; i cannot bring myself to pay £5-£6-£700 for a phone. My iPhone 5 is currently on sim only for £22 a month, unlimited internet & texts, 600 minutes which is plenty.

I kinda like the Samsung Galaxy's but not sure, I don't know whether I like the menu sort and general interface.

I very much would like a fingerprint scanner for unlocking the phone just for security. Camera is not a huge problem. I assume all screen's would be good enough for me and almost definitely a step up from current iP5.

Would need to be minimum 32gb. Internal or external, either is ok.

I've not really kept up with new phones over the past few years, having moved to Apple with my iPhone 4 back in 2010 and haven't looked back. To clarify, I don't have iPad, Macbook Apple watch or anything related to Apple, so if i'm going to jump-ship, now is probably the time.

Thanks all :)

I have a Nexus 5 but if I needed a new one I'd probably go with a Nexus 5X. Decent specs including a fingerprinter reader plus like the Nexus 6p above native Marshmallow for around ~£300. Native Android is the best option IMO.

My mate has a Samsung Gaxaxy 5 phablet thing and since a recent update he's been getting weird battery issues and now wants rid of it as a result plus feels the 6"+ form factor is too large for a phone. I'd have more faith in Google to keep the software on their devices clean whereas you never know what junk Samsung is going to bundle even if the hardware is better from a technical point of view. I'm not convinced Samsung have the software expertise to back up their hardware.

Nexus 5x 32gb is I think £344 the other option is the Moto X style at £369 unlocked for 16gb but it has micro SD expansion, those are the two android phones I would go for at that price. The Nexus will get updates fastest and longest and has a finger print sensor, while the Moto X style has micro SD expansion a larger and better screen and some nifty touches like wave to wake and will get updates for a while. Tough call between those two imho.

Thanks for the replies guys. Of the few suggested, I think I like the look of the Nexus 5x the most, however no expandable storage could pose a problem. Even 32gb would get taken up quickly with the hi-resolution photos :(

Nexus 6p also an option, but maybe a bit more than I'm looking to spend on a phone, and only 12MP rear camera? :(

Don't be put off by by the megapixel count of the 6p, the camera is meant to be good. Plenty of reviews on YouTube if you need reassuring. I just picked one review at random. Worth watching if you're unsure.

Nexus 6p is a great phone, still you need to spend £500 (£489 from carphone) to get the 64gb one. It's still good value but creeping closer to other flagship phone prices.

Seems a lot of love for the 6P, also from the other forum I visit regularly. Will see if they drop over the next few weeks. 12 month sim-only ends in March anyway so could go back to contract

Then there's the LG G4 whiich is £225 at the moment (usually ~£300 (£500+ at launch) - great phone, especially at this price

I've used 10-20 different Androids this year and for £225 I don't think you can beat this.

Currently I'm using a Note 5 as my main device, but that only narrowly beat out the LG G4, so at £225 for me it's a no brainer.

If you don't like the 6p what about the Motorola x style? 350 in cpw and rainforest

Big screen quad HD, good camera, expandable storage also.
Must admit I'd go for g4 at the current price if price was a major factor.

The 5X is poor value for money, even more so with the LG G4 at that price and with other phones like the OnePlus models all being far cheaper than the 'cheap' Nexus. The 6P on the other hand looks great.
