Vodafone Smart Ultra 6

I updated the girlfriends phone tonight after it took an hour to download.
The phone worked for about 40 minutes and then switched off and will not turn back on.
It won't boot into recovery either :/
Anyone else had any issues after the update. I did notice it was very laggy after the update but I thought that to be quite normal.
Cheers.

Edit * Got it working again by removing the sim card tray and holding the power button down. I came on right away.
She has a Three sim in and it was unlocked via an ebay code fyi.

Can someone explain this.
Here's my battery usage.Overnight I turn wi-fi off and put the phone in airplane mode yet according to the graph wi-fi is still on.

Go into wifi extra settings and see in wifi scanning is still on.

Also use this app is you want the % in your status bar battery

updated mine late last night and did a full wipe.Very impressed withh 5.1

couple of things i did - uninstalled all the bloat and disabled inbuilt messaging apps (textra is brilliant)
disabled built in email apps and use bluemail email (better than stock)
change both apps to dark theme
install swiftkey and nova launcher

performance is very good with this setup and i havent seen any lag yet

only thing i was a bit gutted about was the dolby app missing from the turkish rom :-(

if you can still pick it up for 99 its still the phone to beat

PayForIt always seemed like a massive liability due to the lack of double authentication (almost certainly by design). I hope it gets overhauled to require active authentication at least (eg password entry, respond to SMS or something). This is pretty much the last bit type of fraud left now I think.

I know this is an old discussion now, but I remembered your question and in case you still wanted to know if anyone has been affected by rogue apps here's another example with exploited apps using operator direct billing - actually leading to court action against Vodafone:

I'm not sure this is relevant to our previous discussion about Stagefright. I don't think it's a rogue APK situation either. This isn't even really about Android (the article never mentions Android) it's more about Vodafone being lax with security.

It's directly addressing the question you asked about rogue apps, allowing apks from unknown sources and whether anyone had ever been affected unless I misunderstood your question earlier in the thread. It affects any carriers that offer direct to bill payments (most), not just Vodafone.

Well I was only ever asking about Stagefright, and people having their phones hacked using it. Have a look back.

There's not a lot of detail in this report, I certainly don't believe it relates to someone having their phone hacked using Stagefright. I don;t think it's any kind of hack, it mentions just leading people to click links.

Quick question on unlocking these using an Ebay code

Do I need a Vodafone SIM to unlock it or can I just put my existing giffgaff SIM in to apply the code. Vodafone store won't sell it without a £10 sim top up, so I'm going online. Just wanted to check

Cheers

Cheers, but what is a personal SIM PIN? Is that something I should know?

I'm very conscious that that sounds like the dumbest question ever :)

It's an additional that you set yourself to protect the sim card. Nothing to worry about as you need to enable it yourself.
