Wired or Wireless Headset - if so which one?

Hi

I run a blog with a podcast attached to it. I used to use my Logitech G930 which worked great with its noise cancelling microphone but it's falling apart and the software and wireless receiver has become nothing short of buggy and problematic. In fact the headphones won't even switch on unless plugged in now.

So I need a replacement and I got a big voucher from Amazon to use. Now I don't play many PC games any more, but occasionally I indulge in some online gaming and enjoyed the 7.1 surround sound. I listen to a fair bit of music and watch a ton of YouTube stuff. But I also do the podcast which means the microphone must be the key thing. Now wireless has been great for being able to walk away from the PC and concentrate on something else while still listening to music but a convincing argument can make me go wired.

I need advice on what's better for me out of wired and wireless and what specific headsets would suit? Budget is probably under £200. In terms of wireless, there isn't much under that price other than the budget models under £100. Wired however I was particularly impressed with the mic quality tests I've seen from the Sennheiser 363D, even though they are wired.

Thoughts?

From my experience its quite hard to beat the quality and functionality of the PC363D's mic for that kind of use but I'd give a serious consideration if you are spending that kind of money to a setup along the lines of the AKG 701 and modmic combination though not sure how easy they are to source at a good price on there - will be pushing the budget to the max.

EDIT: That said the AKGs are kind of a recommendation from the gaming perspective - you might find they sound a bit fatiguing for long music listening.

The problem with using any external microphone is that it picks up way too much outside noise, whether it's the hot rods outside, the main street or the PC fans. I had a Blue Yeti once and it was just atrocious and un-usable. Headsets so far have managed to cut out all that external noise.

External microphones keep picking up all the background noise though from the main street or my PC fans. I used to have a Blue Yeti and that was atrocious and unusable.

^^ antlion modmic or v-moda boompro "should" be no different than using a headset in that regard though your mileage might vary - very different to tieclip or stuff like the yeti.

(the v-moda a lot more limited in terms of compatibility than the modmic and won't easily fit on most headphones)

really I'm loving my snowball mic with platronics 780 headset for recording games. It does pick up a lot; but normally I turn down my tv; *can't turn down my boy but he comes up with some funny stuff while playing PvsZ:GW :D

took me a little bit to get used to it; but mic is awesome

Well I've grabbed a headset now, but one thing I could use is a pop filter/windscreen foam for it - where's the best place I can find something large enough to fit the mic on a Sennheiser 363D?

The Corsair Gaming Void RGB Wireless are a good set of headphones, with a good quality mic and good wireless range.

They are OK but the H2100 imo is a better set for the following reasons

1) the void has that annoying mic mute button the 2100 you just move the mic boom up quickly to mute (a very nice handy feature you know its muted as you just flip the mic up)

2) they do not turn them selves off unlike the H2100

3) the 2100's are more comfortable

4) the bass is harder on the 2100's

i have the H2100's and got some voids. Was so disappointed with them they went back. IMO the H2100 is a better set.
