So I was parked at Aldi and put my daughter into her seat and was about to get into my car when all of a sudden I hear a voice 'Oi you hit my car' I look around and its the driver of the car next to me walking over to me from his shopping 'your door hit my car I saw it' (note i did not hit his car these kind of things I make sure) I say to him I did not hit your car look there's no damage on you car at all how could I have hit it (seriously there's not a single scratch on the whole car never mind where he said I hit it. 'This is gonna take me £50 to fix give me your insurance details'. He was being really loud and my daughter was crying so I gave him my details but at no point admit to something I didn't do. I took pics of the car including where he said I damaged it. Both cars were parked. can anyone advise where I stand in this because it feels like a scam to me :-/

Well he had my number plate and took pics. all I gave was my name and insurer.

Surely he would have got my name and address from the number plate?

You took photos, that's enough really. Also not sure it's an insurance issue and it'll simply be your word against his if it is. With your photos showing no damage.

Only if he works for the Police/DVLA?

Otherwise he would have to contact the DVLA and request the information, and I'd hope they would require a good reason, and I doubt he would have a reason which they consider sufficient.

I didnt know that. I was just being honest about things. I thought maybe with my number plate and pics he could have phoned the police and I might have been in some kind of trouble

Also, in terms of sufficient reason. Surly he would have have made something up like I hit his car or some kind of hit and drive off or anything really

You apply for it online and it comes through in seconds. If I recall it's a drop down box or free format field to give a reason. But the process is instant so not reviewed immediately. I used it to get someone's insurance details a few years ago.

Here are 2 pics. I took about 20. The white car is his. He says the damage is underneath his wing mirror. Second pic he is pointing to where he says I hit him

Maybe he shouldn't be parked so close to the line.. maybe he hit your car when he got out too? :)

I doubt you'll hear anything - nobody is going to hassle an insurance company for £50!

Having said that those Mazda 3's dent/scratch stupidly easily so I can see why the other guy might be paranoid if he saw the doors touch.

Once his finger was there you should have opened the door to validate his concern. Certainly I wouldn't have given any details after that. Someone dinged my car at work, his window was ajar so i put my arm in and unlocked it to do the swing test. Then left a note on his screen thanking for his consideration. Was tempted to rub mud all over his seats but recognised it was a very minor mark I only noticed as it was clean where they have finger rubbed the spot!
