Bit late with this this year, but what's your favourite album that came out this year?

My choices this year are:-
Hot Chip - Why Make Sense
Years & Years - Communion
Everything Everything - Get to Heaven

Whilst it wasn't released this year I did discover a new artist this year called Selah Sue and listened to her self titled debut album from 2011 for the first time this year which I thought was excellent and so for me that is my album of the year.

Don't think I have a favourite album that was actually released this year though.

Some awesome albums this year, some of my highlights:

Zardonic - Antihero
Blue Stahli - The Devil
Celldweller - End of an Empire
Infected Mushroom - Friends on Mushrooms
Eisbrecher - Schock
Chvrches - Every Open Eye
Nero - Between II Worlds

But my favourite is Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase. Mesmerising album and seeing it twice at Royal Albert Hall was one of the highlights of the year for me.

Is that all metal ?

No, Eisbrecher kind of. They're a bit Rammstein-y but more electronic. Celldweller has some metallic elements. Zardonic is like drum n bass done by a metal fan, it's really interesting.

My favourites this year

Of Monsters and Men - Beneath the Skin
The Decemberists - What a terrible world, what a beautiful world
Wolf Alice - My love is cool
Jack + Eliza - Gentle Warnings
Soak - Before we forget how to dream

Also enjoyed offerings from Liane La Havas, Rae Morris, Lucy Rose, Saint Raymond, Kid Wave, Alabama Shakes, The Staves, Belle & Sebastien

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
Floating Points - Elaenia
Public Service Broadcasting - The Race for Space
Jamie xx - In Colour

Clutch - Psychic Warfare
Cattle Decapitation - The Anthropocene Extinction
Between the Buried and Me - Coma Ecliptic
Health - Death Magic
Puscifer - Money Shot
Sikth - Opacities, not really an album but it's going on the list.

Torres - Sprinter
Chvrches - Every open eye
Hop Along - Painted Shut

Notable mentions
Colleen Green - I want to grow up
Big Grams - Big Grams
Menace Beach - Raworld

Then a mention below, only recently released though so not sure how it'll fair a few months on
JennyLee - Right On!

I saw Torres live in Barcelona, all by herself with no backing band and she was phenomenally good. Some real belters on the album that make you wan tto crank up the volume and sing along. 2nd and 3rd are fairly standard choices. Chvrches were not as good as the best on their first album but the average level was higher, the girl singing's vocals have improved markedly. Hop Along are just a fantastic band and the vocalist's unconventional style adds a whole lot to the songs.
