not fussed on os

windows connect 10 is 99 at tesco , is there a better tablet out there ?

budget is 100 to 130 dont mind going second hand

Don't go Tesco Connect, I have the 9" one and it conked out on me after 1 day. Quick call to Tesco support and apparently you can only charge them for 3-4hrs at a time or you burn the battery and it won't switch on again!

They are giving me a refund but little things like that make me think about the quality of components they are using!

The Linx 1010b can be had from the rainforest with a keyboard for about £130. Well worth the money imo. This is of course if you want Windows.

Windows 8 did wonders on 1GB of RAM - though only really suited to light web browsing and some apps, etc. in which case you might as well have gone Android unless you used the odd x86 program - Windows 10 doesn't seem to run quite as well on 1GB (still useable) though your mileage might vary.

2GB however is very very useable.

If you are on a budget the LinX are a lot of tablet for the money but IMO if you are going 10" and Windows its worth putting the extra together for a tablet along the lines of (not necessarily that tablet) the Toshiba Click 10, Asus Transformer, etc.

The Click 10 is a good little device. I bought one for the Mrs a while back and the performance is good and the keyboard isn't terrible. It even works with Windows Continuum (switching from tablet to desktop mode depending on whether the keyboard is attached or not) which means that they did the dock right and followed MS rules.

this is what I got to replace my hudl 2 and I love it, its not as much of a tablet experience (I haven't run it for any time in tablet mode yet though) and its missing some tablet based apps but the keyboard and track pad made this much more suitable for me.

8.1 is a much better tablet OS. If your tablet comes with it do play with 8.1 first. Backup any recovery partition so you take it back.

Once you learn the swiping guestures, it is a great OS.

You can of course upgrade any windows 8 tablet to 10 for free for the next 6 months which also improves performance. As POB has said go for a 2gb RAM one if you get windows which will run most things fine.

Linx 1010B does everything I want for my 80 year dad and it's easier to support than the Android tablet he had before that. Bundled keyboard is a real boon too.

Even managed to use his 42" plasma to watch a 1080p mkv with VLC yesterday via the micro HDMI so that was a nice treat for the old fella.

whats the best android 10 inch tab up to 150 ish

im tempted as they seem to run quicker than windows tablets

No idea where that came from, but oddly enough it's absolute, utter rot.

I've got the 9" Connect from Black Friday (With staff discount and some vouchers, I paid under £30!)
It's a reasonable enough little machine but has major, major flaws and Windows on a tablet sometimes makes me want to shoot the designers-
* In tablet mode, the start menu is always open. (Just why? Can't I use the desktop as well?)
* The all programs part of the start menu in tablet mode is grade A atrocious.
* Settings are all well and good until I find something that can't be changed without going into a non-tablet part of the UI, or that requires a precise click on somewhere- Bad design....

If the Black Friday model is the same as the standard one (Haven't checked), then the storage space is a major problem-
I was presented with the November Windows 10 build update, and promptly discovered that there wasn't enough space to install it.
As suggested, I first tried adding a microSD card (64gb)- Didn't like it
I then deleted *everything* from the tablet. Still not enough space....
I finally managed to get it installed by turning on folder compression for the upgrade folder.
Overall, that experience would be enough to put any non-technical user off this tab.

Battery life is very decent, and having the full range of Windows applications is why I bought it in the first place.

I've also discovered that it's got a standard BIOS, which it's entirely possible to get stuck in if you don't happen to have a USB keyboard handy.

In summary, if you're not an advanced user and willing to work around Microsoft and the OEMs messes, I'd steer well clear.
Even then, if I hadn't paid under £30 it'd be going back for a refund.

thanks for the reply i think i am going to go android now

im using it for kodi and mainly web browsing and the odd game

something with good battery life and more importantly whats the best screen i could get at this price point

Personally I've never really needed tablet mode on Windows - in 10 150% resolution scaling seems to work fairly well on the desktop though personally I still use 100% though the odd thing can be fiddly. Windows 10 UI wise is badly designed full stop though its not just the tablet functionality that has been implemented with very restricted vision and lack of overall cohesion.

There are 1-2 apps I miss from Android but I just run them on my smart phone.

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 2 from JL on Xmas eve

10"
quad cpu
2GB ram
32gb space (micro sd slot so ordered a 64gb card)

Great screen and android os £159.99 with 2 years warranty

Good shout on the yoga 2. Battery life and screen look really good

Will imagine this will run quicker and display better than the Linx 10

Just picked up a yoga 2 with 4g like new for 140 delivered off gumtree

I know it's not far off the non 4g version but thought it was worth the extra

Will report back with findings
