Next door had man in to re-align their plastic doors so rang next door and asked if he could do mine after.

The best 30 quid I have spent in a while - all outside doors now close cleanly - latches latch and key's turn easily.:)

Anyone in mid Shropshire who is looking for same job I can recommend this guy.

You should have watched him do it so you can do it yourself next time. plastic doors will drop and move over time and it's usually just a case of turing a bolt with an allen key to sort it.

I did try doing it a while back - only difference is he knew what he was doing and I didn't, although I knew the theory I failed the practical

I need mine doing too. I tried doing it but failed. What is this service called or anyone know someone in South East Essex (Southend) area?

This, literally a single allen key on the hinges. I just recently did the back door as it had dropped and was scraping on the under side.

Not all doors are single allen key my friend:)
So long as you remember how may turns clock/anti you can put them back to how it was before you bodg,i mean adjusted it :D

I get my windows serviced every few years as we live near the sea so the rivets/screws perish over time from salty air. Really worth doing.

Going to have to change several of the handles next year as coating coming off and looks really bad, might give that a go myself but certainly wouldn't attempt to adjust my patio doors.

Definitely do the handles yourself, it's just 2 bolts to swap them. Just need to measure the distance between the bolts. If the windows are fairly modern there should be no difficulty getting hold of the handles. Plus you can get them very cheaply online, window places put a massive markup on the handles and charge a fortune to swap them over when its such an easy job.

Adjusting the hinges on doors/ latch keep etc is easy to do as well and worth having a go to get to know how the door works. The rubber gasket on pvc doors can compress over time and can also harden/soften depending on temperature. So sometimes the latch keep will need adjusting to compensate. Its usually a case of loosening 2 screws, moving the latch keep slightly, then re tightening. Unless you are a millionaire I cant understand why someone wouldn't have a go at that themselves. I feel bad charging someone £50 to do a 2 min job...
