Religious idiot in park, pushing views onto others

To add, it falls into the same category as the moron who once walked up to me when I was watering the plants (and gardening/working in garden in general) on a sunday and told me not to do that on a sunday. Needless to say I splashed him with my garden hose.

I honestly can't stand people who tell what to (not) do! If it's a religious reason then it's oil to the fire for me.

Except generally Atheists don't do that, because well.... were just better humans than the religious :)

You get nutters in every situation. I know an atheist that will take great pleasure in lecturing you on why his way is the best way, and actively seeks out those with faith to 'prove them wrong'.

I'm not religious, its just annoying having any views pushed at you as has been said.

OP's dad is either a very, very slow jogger, or likes a good debate and er... getting his point of view across.

You can always spot somebody who has read 'The God Delusion' :D

Pretty irrelevant. Many non religious people (atheist or not) will bang on about some sort of opinion they believe in.

People will get on their pedestal about all sorts of things they're passionate about.

Spoilered because swearing. May be not specifically what you're talking about, but you get nutters from every walk of life.

If you're doing serious exercise on Xmas day you have to start asking whether you are exercising to live or living to exercise.

Eh, why?

I spent my day off work doing what I liked. That included my usual exercising because, and this is the key point, I like it. People who routinely do exercise often do. People who don't routinely do exercise often have a different subjective assessment of exercise - they see it as a chore and an unpleasant one at that. I see it as a form of entertainment (and also highly beneficial) so why wouldn't I do it on a day I'd set aside entirely for my own entertainment?

Did you watch TV on Christmas day? If so, did you ask yourself whether you're watching TV to live or living to watch TV?

Did you play games on Christmas day? If so, did you ask yourself whether you're playing games to live or living to play games?

Etc.

I spent far less time lifting weights than I did playing Fallout 4 or reading a book. Why is the exercise a problem and the other things not? I'm not seeing your point.

I watched no TV ....watching David Walliams is more of a torture than saying going for a run in the falling rain...

Good on you...:)

I can still sort of see why people who don't routinely exercise see it as being weird. If I could travel back to myself 2 years ago and tell me that a few dozen pushups is a good thing to wake up to, first thing out of bed, I would have looked at me like I'd gone mad :) No doubt some people reading this thread think the same thing. To me it's a fine way to start the day.

Yeah, that does sound weird even to me :)

Watching Walliams and friends is weirder....

lol, so you're religiously spouting that God doesn't exist, while flaming other people who religiously say that God does exist, and you're the better person...? :o ;)

Full Definition of religious. 1 : relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity <a religious person> <religious attitudes> 2 : of, relating to, or devoted to religious beliefs or observances <joined a religious order>

Derp. No, because it's not faithful, nor devotion.

Nor is it a belief in knowledge of an ultimate reality. So jon86's non-religious definition of religion still doesn't fit the OP in any way and their argument is nonsense.

Those two words are used in every day non-religious contexts.

Atheists can be just as devoted / enthusiastic to their non-religious beliefs, preaching to those who do have a religious belief. On GD, this is often played out by such people using language that is berating and belittling, as though anyone who believes in anything else is an idiot and stupid or at the very least blinded / misinformed.

I admit that I misunderstood what the textbook definition of "ultimate reality" was. I wrongly assumed that it just meant a particular worldview and, for example, idea of the origin of the universe.
