Hi,

Current washing machine is an LG which i bought second hand. Has lasted me a couple of years but it now shakes quite badly when spinning and also makes some odd noises when drawing water so it's not just play in a bearing.

We've a little'en on the way, so I think now is a good time to buy something that will work well and have a decent warranty on it should it go wrong. I've read some previous threads on here which seem to suggest LG / Siemens, but having had the current one fail after 2 years, I'm not so sure, although I could be convinced! I've also noticed everyone seems to get pointed towards John Lewis as they offer a good no quibble warranty service?

Anyhow, i'm prepared to spend up to £500 if the machine is worth it. Looking on JL lots of people are raving about the Zanussi on there....

Anyway, is this a good list to go from?

Should i be looking on any other websites?

I guess for me I'd like it quiet, able to cope with at least 8KG, show how long is left, be able to do a decent quick wash and also for the clothes to be as dry as possible before removing them.

Any recommendations or advice? Any other brands I should consider?

I'd buy the 379 LG and add the additional 3 year warranty.

The Siemens offer the additional 3yr for registering the product but nothing will beat JL no quibble warranty and excellent CS.

I think I'd buy the bosch below with the additional 3 years.

Hi, thanks for that. Reviews on that machine don't seem to be too good! I've also sworn never to buy a Bosch again as i had one previously which failed after 2 years and was quoted mental prices to fix it.

Buy an LG. All my mates and me have Direct Drive ones - 10yr warranty on the drive. Normal on the rest.

Mines lasted me a few years and still works perfectly however I'm a light user. 1 load a week..... lol Unless I have jeans and/or bedsheets.

My lg direct drive dishwasher was a load of junk and was scrapped
My bosch washing machine has been replaced twice
My baumatic stuff was poor quality but lasted ages till it eventually exploded comedy style
My ancient hoover washing machine lasted years
My Indesit washing machine lasted 1 day past the 1 year warranty

My view is its a massive lottery and what matters is customer service and no quibble warranty rather than spending days researching and debating which manufacturer and model

My view is you need to learn how to use a washing machine. :p

NOT an invitation to show you. :p

We have had a Samsung one for about 6 months and it came with a 5yr warranty.

Before that we had a German made Bosch which lasted over 14 years and only got replaced because it looked old in our new kitchen!

I repair lots and lots of other brands. ;)

Ahhh fair enough :) Thanks. Only thing that has put me off is my current LG hasn't worked or lasted that long.

I've just bought this after the bearings went in my lg direct drive and split the drum.

Hmm, £100 cheaper, 5 year Warranty and 9KG wash!

I went Samsung too, mainly for the 5 year warranty.

The LG had a 10 year warranty on the drive(motor?) but only 3 years (iirc) on everything else. Strikes me they have confidence in the drive, but not so much on the other parts.

Looks good, although the one above is a bit more expensive with a heavier load drum.

They offer 5 year warranties now.

They are only listing 2 or 3 year guarantee on JL, but some list 5 year if you apply to manufacture for it from what I can see.

Only 7KG, I'd like at least what we have now (8KG). The brand has an excellent reputation though and I will consider it.
