Hi, I have been looking at getting a new laptop and think it's a good time to get one now we are in the post Christmas sales and there are some good deals about. The laptop will be for everyday usage and sometimes working from home and some gaming such as football manager.

I have been considering the HP pavilion 15-ak085na. It has a 2tb hard drive, 8gb ram and i7 processor. Cost is £550.

There is another HP pavilion laptop which is the same but has an i5 processor for £150 less at £400.

Which should I go for?
Help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Daniel

What are you going to be using it for?

The price difference between the i7 and i5 would allow you to swap the HD for a SSD. That would give a bigger performance boost than having an i7.

Thanks for the quick reply. It will be used mainly as an everyday pc/laptop, surfing Internet, YouTube videos, some gaming (football manager) and working from home on occasions.

I want to know which is the best deal basically as I can't really find another laptop with the i7 processor it has with 8gb ram and 2tb for anywhere near £550.

Would you think I should splash out the extra £150 for the i7?
If you have any other laptops I could look at for around the £550 prove range that may be a better option I will gladly take a look.

Regards

If you want to use it on battery more often than on mains I'd look at which CPU (likely the i5) has a lower power consumption.

If that turns out to be the i5 (again, likely), then get the i5 and as already mentioned, add a decent SSD. The SSD will make far more of a difference to the usability of the laptop than the i7 would.
