As topic. Google-fu seems to lead me to think it is the coil packs or spark plugs failing. Car is a Clio Mk3. Does this sound reasonable? The car was only serviced (full) in Sept so it's odd they would fail so quickly.

Any idea how much I'm going to have to dig in the pocket for this?

Bloody car seems to be a money pit.

yes will be coil pack most likely.

Coil packs give no warning, just one morning typically when cold/damp the car will struggle and that is always sign of coil pack or on older cars HT leads/dizzy cap.

Cheers guys. It's not something I would be willing to change myself, never had the confidence to go fiddling under the bonnet.

Is this likely to be expensive at the garage for a new coil pack? I'm not sure if they are universal or not.

Put your reg on euro car parts, order yourself 1, 2, 3 or 4 new coils, check for discount codes and also check carparts4less.

To install not even a 10 minute job for an average mechanic, do-able in 5 minutes even. :D

Give it a go yourself, so easy, lots of how to video's trust me very easy job, don't give a garage £20-£60 for doing 5 minutes work.

Clio MK3 are known for coil packs failing. My girlfriends 1.4 16v had one of them fail. They're so easily to replace. Pull the engine cover off, unplug the coil pack (there is 4 of them) undo the bolt and pull it out. Simple as that. Then reverse.

It didn't do it once on the drive home yesterday, or the drive to work today, so I'll leave it for now and see how it goes, might have been a one off. Thanks for the pointers guys, will bear in mind if it flares up again.

100% coil packs. That is exactly the early signs, trust me when it is a cold wet morning it will come back.
