hello motors.

Last two years I have been insured with Sky on my S2000. They have been great in terms of customer service but I cant see them coming close on their renewal to a quote I got this week on a comparison site.

I know Hastings aren't a 'specialist insurer' and my worry is that they wont deal with the car in the same way as Sky would if the worst happens.

does anybody have any experience with Hastings or should I stop being a prat and just go with them because their quote is cheapest and insurance is insurance?

Been with them 2 years and no issues. Never claimed though so my experience may not be too useful, although customer service seems fine

I'm with Hastings just had my car written off due to someone driving into the back of me and they've been good to deal with so far so can't complain.

Be careful. When my bumper got damaged they told me that they don't deal with repairs on cars over 10 years old regardless of value or fault, they just write them off without looking at them apparently.

It meant i had to deal with the 3rd party insurer direct who were a nightmare to deal with.

All for a rear bumper.

perfect. this is exactly what i was looking for. some smallprint loophole thing that doesnt get mentioned.

will see what sky present me with then.

King85, sorry to hear about your car. were they reasonable with the offer they presented you with for it?

That sounds ridiculous. Lot of value in some cars still at 10 years old, writing off would be such a hassle. Definitely will avoid Hastings when my renewal comes up in Jan.

I said that to them, I asked if they'd write off a 10 year old Porsche 911 for a scuffed alloy & the guy on the phone just said "Probably", it was something to do with them working with a company called Albany Assist.

I started the process of logging a complaint as nowhere does it say this in the T's & C's & I felt it should be made very clear when someone insures a 10+ year old car that it won't be repaired, as far as I was concerned i'd been mis-sold the policy.

Never followed it up though as the third party insurer started to play ball.

Moved to Direct Line & got it covered for £160 with £0 excess, won't be going back to Hastings!

ive called them and after the confused woman who needed it explaining 3 times to her had gone and checked with other people, they have said they have never heard of the 10 year automatic write off and that the only thing they have that applies to 10 year+ old vehicles is their breakdown cover for Europe.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
