Crowd funded StarTrek receives Lawsuit

Yeah they won't stop you making a fan film but crowdfunding one causes issues. I kinda remember a minecraft fan film being cancelled because they tried to crowdfund it.

They claim nothing has changed and instead posted a pic of them all enjoying sushi....

Its a sad day when they can't allow trek to continue even for the fans !

They should have got permission before taking peoples money. What happens now if they cant make it? Does everyone lose what they put in?

The folks who gave them money must be extremely naïve.
Star Wars is a huge franchise currently owned by Disney.

It was obvious that once they started taking money Disney's lawyers would get involved.

Now ? will they simply be told to desist, in which case they keep the money (in my opinion there plan all along) or will Disney actually sue them and take the money from them.

Some actors I recognise in the video, mainly from Battlestar Galactica. Does look good.

I recognise them mainly from Star Trek. All of the ones I recognise played Klingons, General Martok has an incredibly distinctive voice it's weird hearing it and seeing a human face in a starfleet uniform.

Hertzler and Todd are just brilliant... This actually looked pretty damn good too.
The only one that I was a little iffy about was Richard Hatch (Kharn) of BSG fame. He was perhaps a bit too 'human' for a Klingon, but they did say he was a bit different, so...

Such a shame that it might not see the light of day...

A little like Chang from Star Trek 6, less "severe" Klingon features, the reason Chang looked how he did was Christopher Plummer didn't want a ton of prosthetics applied.

A bit like that, yeah.
It's not so much the makeup, more so the way he acts in this.

Then again, Chang was pretty refined and wasn't your average roughneck Klingon either :D
..And I suppose they're also harking back to the older days when they weren't quite like they are in TNG/DS9.

Tons of other trek spin off fan work check here:

Star Trek: Phase II and inteprid, dark armada, hidden frontier and few others worth checking out, yeah they are terrible ie fat pensioner wearing spectacles with wig and vulcan ears falling off while talking, but oddly some do capture the action and trek feel, New voyagers and phase II are much higher quality in nature and have chekov, sulu original cast as guest also as well as good cgi.

Also hilarious poster posted above with starwars in mind!

It'll be because they're making a new Star Trek TV series and they don't want this project being compared.

There's going to be a proper new Star Trek starting early next year from CBS. I'm looking forward to that and not another "school play" type affair that we had with Renegades and no doubt this too.
