Steam Winter Sale 2015

Whatever happened to anticipating what bargains come up in daily deals or flash sales? Prices are static now even if games are "featured" on the front page and the discounts are no where near as good as they used to be. It's been this way for a while now though I suppose :(

It's a by-product of Steam's new refund policy. If they persisted with flash sales etc people would simply refund a game just to get the cheaper version.

They could introduce a block on buying the same game you have had refunded for 1 month or something to stop people doing that.

Sales weren't amazing this year, but I bought Witcher 3 and The Evil within. Last year i think I ended up with like 8 or so games.

But I don't think it's something they want to stop. People felt ripped off when they purchased a game only to find it reduced further the next day, yes most of us knew to wait for a daily/flash, but it ****** a lot of people off, so quite rightly they have done away with that.

Yeah its a shame as it added more excitement, but it doesn't really make much difference.

There are decent deals, but most of us already own a lot of them. Plus however good the sale is its never gonna compete with all the grey key sellers and their bargains.

I just didn't think there was anything I really wanted this year. I picked up the long dark as I was bored, but other than that the market is just over saturated with either early access, platformers or weird japanese anime games I will never play.

Just found it too difficult to find anything I wanted so stopped looking after a couple of days.

So my total now is:

Ryse: Son of Rome
Lords of the Fallen
The Long Dark
Sunless Sea
Age of Empires II HD

I'm very happy with my purchases. Ryse, although a bit samey in the combat, it an enjoyable game. Lords of the Fallen is pretty tough so it'll be rewarding to play through. I tried The Long Dark for about half an hour last night. I was dead within minutes the first time, and the second I wasn't doing too badly. It's a very nice looking game. The graphics are interesting and the game is very atmospheric. It'll be nice to get stuck into it properly.

I've yet to try Sunless Sea, and AoE is, well, AoE. I can't wait to play that again! Thanks Steam!

And to all those saying they've hiked the prices, we've already discussed and disproved this earlier in the thread. If you want to check the prices yourself, you can do this at www.steamprices.com. That'll list the cheapest discount price and the regular list price.

Ryse is a poor game mate tbh, didn't you read the reviews on that before buying it? I bought that on release a while back. 61/100 on steam but I don't understand how it even scored that.

It's not too bad. It's a good looking game and even though it's the same combat over and over, I'm having fun chaining combos together and then finishing. It's just a mindless arcadey type game and I fancied a bit of a sword and shield bash, which is why I picked that and Lords of the Fallen up.

Bought the telltale Walking Dead, I enjoy the GoT one and my kids love the Minecraft one, just need to find some time to play it.

Nothing else interested me.

In the EU that is illegal so no, steam just has high prices a lot of the time

No, they genuinely take say, a £19.99 game and jack the price to say, £34.99 then throw a -75% off tag on it and it ends up at like a little cheaper than -50% discount on the original price. Valve are horrendous for it, they've been doing it since I can remember.
