Do Asus Allow Cooler Removal ?

Might be going watercooling soon and was wondering if Asus allow stock cooler removal on the Matrix cards like EVGA ?

I have read the stock cooler removal sticky and seen RJK put Asus as ok to do this but one of the screws has a tiny little circular sticker over it.

I'd like to know this myself. Mine seems to be working loose (somehow?!) and I'd like to take it apart and re apply paste and tighten it back up

If you are only going to have the card until Pascal comes along it is not really worth the effort and expense of watercooling it.

For single card usage the Matrix cooler is more than good enough.

I'm sure there was a list on here somewhere of who did and didn't allow cooler removal. Is it part of the "How good is the warranty thread"?

From what I can gather with Asus probably not. I think Asus get a bit funny about the warranty if you look at the card wrong, let alone actually touch it :)

I have watercooled a lot of Asus cards but I have always taken the view that if they go wrong I am on my own.

See my post two posts before yours, its the list of who does and who does not its a sticky at the too of graphics cards

To really make it easy asus do allow it

I watercooled a Asus Titan that went pop, popped the stock cooler back on and sent it off for RMA and no probs. Just be careful and use the correct tools Dice.

I have a reference asus 980ti and the EK predator 360, thinking of getting a pre filled block to add to the loop so it is reassuring if they allow it.

Are they doing those now?
I saw the predator was available and decided I'd probably do the same thing when the parts became available but didn't think they had.

I won't be doing it too my current card anyway but that'll be replaced as soon as a viable alternative rears it's head.

Well the Pascal card I'll be getting will be the Asus Matrix which is more than likely 8+ months away judging by the previous few Matrix card releases :)

Will do thanks bud :)

Yeah, just make sure you keep the stock cooler and re-install it if you have any issues.

I tend to find that it's much easier to re-sell GPU's with the stock cooler on rather than a waterblock too.

FB Asus and ask them for peace of mind before breaking the void sticker.

Perchance outdated, pre 'warranty void' stickers?

MSI is the only partner I know of that stated with complete clarity that the western market can remove a cooler with 'warranty void' stickers.

Gibbo posted(round about 290X release) which OcUK partners allowed cooler removal, a simple updated OcUK clarification for their customers on who does/doesn't allow cooler removal would be great.

No but there is also no sticker preventing removal of my cooler (Asus 970 strix) that I can see and typically GPU manufacturers that allow you to change the bios wont mind you changing the heatsink or removing it as long as you replace it without damaging the card

Then there is no warranty void problem on your gpu regarding cooler removal, op however has void stickers and that's what the thread discussion is about.
