North Korea has just tested their first hydrogen bomb

Kim reminds me of that kid you get at every kids' party, telling all the grownups that he's got a big red firetruck that can fly.

It inevitably going to happen regardless of sanctions. The UN really only have one option here and this is the window of opportunity before they develop greater capability.

Its not inevitable. It's simply possible. NK is a lone wolf state, and all it takes to reverse their weapons program is pressure from China and the West. Iran did a U-turn, NK will be forced to do the same.

NK have already gone beyond Iran. Previous sanctions haven't worked and I don't think pressure from China is going to stop them. They know this device on a missile gives them huge bargaining power and makes it harder for other countries to operate a military force in the area.

A lot can change in politics quickly. China and the US are cemented in this area and they can apply necessary pressure on NK quickly. The US and China will not allow NK to destabilise the region further.

Doubt it, not every country in the world owns a spy satellite yet alone one flying over NK.

I can only assume he means temperature change in every country around the world.

Surely a nuke wouldn't be hot enough to notice across the world? I know we're talking absurd temperatures but they'd be in a relativly small area.

I really have no clue how many satellites are up there or even if they'd be above NK.

Indeed even if the thing was detonated above ground, what you may pick up is the fallout.

Meh, get back to me when they've learnt how to start feeding their own people.

I remember with the first claimed bomb test (The one that was supposed to be a dud) making the tongue_in_cheek suggestion that perhaps NK was going straight for a fusion device and that all the first test represented was the successful testing of a fission trigger for a fusion bomb under development rather than a failed test of a full fledged fission bomb in its own right.

Perhaps we are now looking at a successful test of a low yield fusion device intended to have a small fission fallout footprint? ;)

Low yield, Low fallout fusion bombs are AKA Neutron Bombs!

Given that DPRK's only stated territorial ambition is the "reunification" of the Korean peninsular. The development of Such a device would make a certain sense.

Thanks for editing the title :).

And I'd have thought anyone could guess who I was talking about with "Fat man not slim" and "hydrogen bomb" in the title :D.
