Hello everyone, I have been wondering recently about upgrading my GPU in my PC and I'm wondering which of the following GPU setups is the best option for my PC. I am planning to upgrade to 1440P or 4K later so I'm not sure which setup I should go for. Also the cards will be watercooled. :)

Currently I have an R9 290X

(Great I posted it in the wrong section, can the mods please move me to Graphics cards :) )

Wait until you choose your monitor upgrade. My titan does good at 1440p so your 290x should be great at 1080p.

Water cooled 980ti is probably your best bet, but again, like Disco P said, you gotta choose a monitor first because Gsync vs Freesync. I wouldn't really buy a new monitor without one tbh unless you are a very sporadic gamer.

So 980TI would be better than the Fury X as I don't mind using G-Sync or Freesync :D

Seriously wait it out. You have a decent enough card now to tide you over and shouldn't be too long before the next die shrink GPUs are with us :)

I hope so, I just don't want to wait and finds it's another generation of mediocre cards :(

Well the 980Ti is very good and copes with pretty much everything bar the odd title at 1440P and everything maxed but crystal balls are needed for the future sadly.

Your choice, you can go with the 980TI and have the best card available in it's price range bracket or wait for the new cards.

Only you can decide.

Nothing wrong with that notion either and a 980Ti will last a good while, especially with all that VRAM.

Thing is, you already have a 290x which can OC like a champ and haven't upgraded monitor yet. Waiting is probably not too bad in your case. Gsync has a premium on it, don't forget, and there's a larger selection of Freesync monitors available than Gsync, especially if you discount $1k ones.

Erm, 980Ti is mediocre? Expensive yes, hardly mediocre though I'd say.. You could be waiting till middle of the year minimum for a high end Pascal Ti, unless Nvidia try to rip off their customers with an early Titan and a looong wait for the Ti.

Fair point, I just like to hear everyones ideas to make an informed decision :)

I suppose if it wasn't enough I could add another 980Ti later :)

Yep, I certainly wont be paying anywhere near £1000 for a new monitor, heck probably nearer the £100 - £200 mark. The issue isn't the cards performance it's that fitting it into a watercooled PC and then removing it for a new card is a massive pain :)

Isn't that what they did with the current generation though

Not all 290X's clock like a champ. Some are ***** ;)
Pretty much my luck with the card I have :)
