Ultra Wide vs Hz Upgrade

I love GSync and 144hz.

That said if you do go 144hz, don't get the RoG Dominator, get the Acer version for £50 more if you want Freesync, as the Dominator's Freesync range is only up to 90hz.

You can very safely mod the Freesync range on that one to get it to 144hz (but it will require increasing the lower limit).

Imo Kuuwahi, I don't think you can get enough wow-factor from any of the monitors under <1k compared to your current Asus if you don't go for the 4K ones. The choice to me is this: do you do a lot of "desk" gaming (i.e. CS:GO, DotA 2, RTS games, etc.)? If so, 144hz will be a good idea. Do you play a lot of couch games? If so, go for really big screen and get as immersive as possible. Plenty of 40'' 4k monitors to go around, one even with Freesync (Wasabi Mango). If you do a mix of both, forget it, wait a bit more and save a bit more. Right now I got a BenQ BL3200PT and it's perfect because I do both, though I would have loved to have Freesync as well. In the future though I'll go for a combo 24'' 144hz for competitive gaming + 55'' 4K TV with Freesync for immersion.

@Poneros

I have a vast Steam library so I play many genres but they're all at my desk with the monitor wall mounted. I'm not a "competitive / competition" gamer although I do like to play games as best I can.

As a game developer I'm a stickler for immersion and try to get the best I possibly can Game Dependent and hence my 5.1 Surround Sound.

I have enough money to spend £1000 on a monitor I was just hoping to avoid it if possible.

Height Wise I think my current 27" monitor is perfect for my position. Although I would like some extra screen real estate either side hence the new monitor search.

4K really doesn't interest me as of yet and it will be many years before its even sustainable at a reasonable price.

Honestly, I just don't see a good option for you in that case, except if you upgrade to AMD and go for one of the LG superwide freesync monitors. Though that would require you to drop in resolution as well. The only worthwhile feature for you would be Free/Gsync. >60hz won't be that great considering you aren't competitive gamer and you don't want 4K nor do you like certain brands.

I think just wait for new monitors this year.

Think I might just say Nuts and get the Asus PG348Q ROG Swift 34 as I like to be different to my other friends that rave about 144Hz > resolution + IPS.

Upgrade to AMD ? I would say its a downgrade... As I would be spending more money Changing my MOBO, CPU and GPU's just for a monitor.

Its ok waiting for new monitors but there will always be something better if you wait...

1 monitor is hindering my productivity as I'm having to split my screen in half.

When I meant change to AMD, I meant only the GPU. :P

Not sure I'd get a curved monitor if you want to wall-mount it tho.

Well I would be Getting rid of my 2 x GTX 680 4GB FTW for an AMD card which I will be replacing with another GPU or 2 once Pascal comes out.

What is wrong with wall mounting a curved monitor ? Instead of having my monitor on a stand on my desk I have it on the wall.

Widescreen, gsync and 100hz seems the best of all worlds to me.......is there any debate here, its do you want to spend 1k or not. :)

Do I wan't to spent £1,000?
Not really but its something I'm not a stranger to doing.

Convincing my Misses that its a worth while investment...
Another operation completely :D

I saw one wall-mounted once and it just looked a bit weird to me, I think flat ones are much better for wall-mounting.

I also don't see how there is any difference between wall mounting a curved and having it on a stand, except you get more desk real estate as you don't have a stand taking up room.

I was only getting it as its the 144Hz upgrade to my 60Hz. the monitor is near identical apart from this. I also have NVIDIA so the Freesync is pointless.

But how would 1 27" 144Hz stack up against the Ultra Wide? If you had to pick out the 2 what would you go for and why

well if i had to pick just 1 monitor it would be waiting for the Acer 32in 4k 60hz Gsync but because i couldn't wait i went for the 3x 27in dell , i liked the ultra wide but i found it was a tad small coming from a 40in 4K screen which to this day is the best single screen i have ever had , but it was just a little to big when im 3ft away from it . if i never had the faults with both of the x34's i had i would have kept the ultra wide but that BLB was just awful . now i have got the dells which the first one was perfect i cant go back now , my 2 new replacement screens are here tomorrow and will see what they are like and will then get my triple arm bracket to put them on .
having 3 x 27in in surround makes up for the small screen sizes of them and i can barley get them on my desk .

Do all Ultras suffer from BLB ? I had 3 of my current monitors and that was just to wide for my liking as I only sit about 2 foot away.
