GTX970SLI, 980, 980TI, Fury X or wait?

Same here with Gsync (not tried Freesync so can't comment). Game changer

1440P 144Hz ROG Swift here and a real game changer coming from a 1080P 120Hz 3DVision monitor. I also have never tried Freesync but the only monitor upgrade I am now interested in is one that wraps around my eyes (Oculus Rift) :D

Once you try FreeSync/Adaptive Sync, you never go back. I couldn't game without it now. However i could quite easily swap my Fury X for a 390X and i doubt i would notice too much of a difference unless i had a FPS counter running.

Is that why you are selling your Fury X's? :p

If I am you I will just wait it out for pascal. If you want to game at 4k, just pick up another cheap used 290x and crossfire. Monitor is more of a long term investment so if you are going to upgrade to pascal, you may want to pick up a g-sync monitor, even if it means that you will not have nvidia cards for a while. Personally I believe that g-sync has unreasonable premium and prices will come down. If you drop out g-sync / freesync, you will be able to find 4K@60hz monitors under 300£ price point.

I have 980 Sli setup and I can game in most titles at ultra 4K (with AA off - FXAA only) and still manage a close to 60fps average.

I was tempted to upgrade to 980 ti SLI setup but pascal is round the corner so that's really not a worth while choice for me.

I'd wait it out if I have to be honest. I certainly wouldn't spend close to £500 on a card that is going to be superseded by 14/16 NM Finfet technology within the next 3-6 months. For starters you are going to lose between £150 - £200 on any top of the range card you buy today regardless of whether its an Nvidia or AMD card. Which could go towards a decent variable refresh monitor in the near future.

That 290X is still competing with some of the best cards out there....I'd hang onto it until the new ones come out.

The future is bright....regardless of whether it is red or green.

It works. The Gsync/Freesync is working beautifully. I can tell you that, because I tend also to play CPU limited games like TESO, WOT, WOWarships, SWTOR.

Freesync works wonders and a single 290X can hold at 2560x1440p with everything maxed out most of the time, dishing more than the minimum FPS needed for the tech to work. Also Freesync monitors are much cheaper than the Gsync ones.

However both techs are working and worth the investment. I have a problem with my 2730Z and must be returned for repair/replacement. So using my old XL2410T week 2 now, and believe me, after 8 months using Freesync, I cannot play games without it :(

Everyone would say the same about Gsync/Freesync
Okay so I think I know what I need to do now. I should probably wait and get a freesync or Gsync monitor when I buy my new GPU as it seems there is no point buying a GPU now or letting my current GPU influence my choice of monitor :)

I edited out my comment to add my view on monitor. Also sent a message to you on trust. ;)
