Guys, not quite sure where to post this but I'm hoping someone could help me.

I am having trouble setting up the Elgato HD60 with the PS3, I have read that you need to remove HDCP to be able to do so.

I've been on Amazon and bought a splitter which a lot of reviews stated that the splitter removed HDCP. Now when I've connect it all up to the Elgato and I'm getting the image on the TV and a blue screen on the Elgato.

So I have things connected like this

PS3 - Splitter - Two outputs 1st TV, 2nd Elgato (I've tried both outputs and neither seems to make a difference)

I've tried using the splitter between two TVs and this worked. So I don't think it's the splitter which is broken or the cable. I'm running out of things to try next and wondered if anyone knows what I am doing wrong?

The cable I am using to the Elgato is a 7.5m 1.4a HDMI cable. I originally thought this was the issue but it seems to work with my second monitor so I'm stumped as to what this could be.

Edit: The Elgato works with the PS4 when directly hooked up without a splitter. So I don't think it's the Elgato. I have also tried another smaller cable with the splitter and Elgato and this didn't work either.

Thanks but the thing does the same with my Xbox one as well. Which is supposed to work. Edit 2: just to clarify. It does this if I use the splitter. I have not tried using it directly yet. But I'm planning on doing so.

From what I have read and seen, if the splitter removes the HDCP this is meant to make the PS3 compatible via HDMI.

Edit: I did watch a video which showed the PS3 working with the HD60 and a splitter.

In the Elgato software have you selected the Console as PS3? If so I think it'll think it's using the non-HDMI output thingy (the one without HDCP - can't remember the name).

If you change it over to a console which uses HDMI (like PS4) then it should pick it up fine.

I had a splitter set up when the PS4 has HDCP enabled so I've forgotten exactly how I had it wired up but I believe it was:

PS3 (via HDMI) -> Splitter (via HDMI) -> Elgato -> TV (via HDMI) and PC (via USB cable)

No reason why your way shouldn't work too but give that a go and see if it helps.

Thanks Rusty, so does the output to the TV need to come from the Elgato?

Rather than being two split from the splitter?

There is no option for the PS3 on the HD60, as its HDMI only. I'm confused why it isn't working, but I get the same issue with the splitter and Xbox one. It's quite odd, because using the same set up I can use between two monitors.

Yeah I think it does...

In theory the way you've wired it shouldn't make a difference but give it a go that way and see if it works.

I thought the same but will give it a go tonight. The splitter is a bit of a pain. The wire for the plug is small.

Thanks rusty.

The TV input should come from the Elgato device as it normally would when a splitter is not in use, not a separate connection on the splitter box.

So wire ...

PS3 > Splitter > Elgato > TV

Rather than (as you currently have it) PS3 > Splitter > Elgato
..........................................................................> TV

Not working this way either, this is really strange.

I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference having the Elgato as Input only.

Edit: Would HDCP prevent a splitter from outputting on two different outputs?

Ok so, looks like it is the splitter or at least I believe it is.

I have disabled the HDCP checks on my PS4, I just tried the splitter set up on my PS4 and this worked. Tried exactly the same on the PS3 and it wouldn't work, so I don't think the splitter is stripping out the HDCP signal.

Any ideas which splitter would be good to use?

I have one which states in reviews that it strips the signal so god knows why mine doesn't.

I think it might be because most of the ones that claim to remove it are just generic chinese ones, so there's no guarantee the internals are the same between batches.

As for ones that strip it. I have one that looks like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDMI-Spli...042907?hash=item1a001ce35b:g:svUAAOSw9N1Vu4l-

and it works fine with my ps3 + elgato, I got it from a different seller, but that's what it looks like.

There does seem to be two types on ebay that look like that though. One is plastic, has red leds and you can see the join line of the two halves. The other is metal, has clear leds and has screws in.

I have one of each. The plastic one works great. The metal one gives a black screen to the elgato.

Hi armadillo,

Thanks bro. I actually have that splitter. Mine is the one with the metal screws. I might message the seller and ask if they can confirm.

Does yours have a really small wall plug?

The power adapter that came with both of mine was usb to dc jack. No plug. Cable length is quite short though.

Thanks Armadillo, I will have to look for one which removes the HDCP. I've emailed a few sellers and will see what they come back with. USB to DC Jack sounds a bit ropey though. Have you ever had any troubles with it, do you plug it in to the PS3?
