Hello

i recently got some new headphones but find them uncomfy, the ear cups are quite hard and a bit small

i have a budget of £160, they need to be full over ear, mostly used for gaming and music, no requirement for a mic

Thanks

I don't think a FiiO E10 would be up to driving AKG K712s, although the E10K would have no trouble as it's a fair bit more powerful.

I've driven the Annie straight from my old DX50 before, it sounded fine although a bit harsh up top so the E10 wouldn't be too bad I imagine. I've owned the K712 too and it wasn't too bad to drive. I don't find any of the AKGs to be bothersome but I do think they benefit more from a smoother, warmer amp. The Vali is only £75 now and will drive them pretty soundly. Fiio amps seem to have that SS roughness up top many of the entry-mod-if amps have so the upper mids might get a bit shouty.

K712 from Darreny, assuming he's looked after them well and has them at a sensible price (something around £160-170 is the going price second hand).

I wouldn't recommend the K702 in the same boat as the K712, however, very different sound signature and a much 'colder' flatter sound response. Bass port mod helps this but still can't add the warmth to the lower mids and mids that the K712 has. K612 Pro is the smaller (and cheaper) brother of the K712, and the price difference is apparent in their performance.

Rids is spot on for a closed back solution, though - DT770 is the way to go.
