I am thinking of buying the above mobo as i have had goood experiences with ASRock boards before. What is the general view of the Extreme4?

I am also interested in the Asus Z170-A for about the same price.

Thanks

The Asrock seems to be a decent board. Tweaktown did a review on it here and they seemed to like it. Asrock have come a long way and even their budget boards are decent these days.

HardOCP did a review on the Asus here and they seemed to like it.

Also worth considering and around the same price are the Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI (review here) and Asus Z170 Pro-Gaming (review here).

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £245.08
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Thanks for the info. I do like the ASRock boards but just read a KitGuru review where the Extreme4 did come in for some criticism............

"Memory frequencies above 2933MHz start to present system instability. While this is not currently an issue for a budget motherboard due to the expense of 2933MHz+ DDR4 kits, it will be an undesirable problem for the future. Poor memory stability also caused problems when trying to push the CPU and CPU Cache frequencies during overclocking.
Voltage accuracy also presents a significant problem for the Z170 Extreme4. When manually adjusting the CPU VCore, or even when applying on of the four CPU overclocking presets, a core voltage overshoot in the region of 70mV was registered. Seeing your CPU being delivered 70mV more than you asked for is unreasonable. It takes the operating voltage from a sensible 1.35-1.40V up to a more worrying 1.42-1.47V."

AsRock Z170 Gaming K6, I'm not a big gamer but i like the look of the board and it gets good reviews.

I've been testing an extreme4 today, specifically to see how it's bios fan speed control matches up with asus's bios fan control.

The fan speed control is excellent but while testing I did noticed the onboard audio had a lot of audio interference / static noise when using my sennheiser hd-25 headphones on both the front and rear jacks.

Just somthing to bear in mind if you were planning on using the onboard audio.

I tested K6+ Gaming and Xtreme 4 both are great boards for Overclocking and beating ASUS Z170-A for efficiency and performance clock for clock.

I have been researching for most of today and still cant decide between the Extreme4 and the Asus Z170-A. I won't be overclocking, other than the base clock, as i don't have a "K" processor although that may be a future upgrade.
