Oil filled radiators - are they expensive to run?

At the moment probably not given the price of oil.
You'll find it goes up when the price of crude does (rather obviously :) )

Don't know how reliablele this is

Oil filled radiators are exactly that. Radiators filled with oil that is heated by means of electricity. They do not burn oil.

Got to buy the oil to fill them though :D.

They are as they seem to take a lot to get them up to temp but not so bad when at temp. If you're going to switch them on and off a lot go for one of those fan coil based ones.

Have a read of this article for an overview of different portable heating systems.

I have an oil filled radiator with thermostat for my office as I can sometimes be working late and leaving the heating on makes the bedrooms too hot. I'm sure it would get expensive as a primary source of heating but for my needs it is fine and I have not noticed a bump in the bills.

It appears I have missed something. I'll try and save face though and say at some point it will rely on crude oil.

Phew! think I got away with it *backs away

I need a nice cheap way to heat my conservatory, it is mostly exterior brick with windows.

My PC is in this room now.

I wonder how hard it would be to feed a pipr into this room from my existing central heating?

Electric heaters cost as much to run as electric heaters cost to run!

How many Kw is the heater, how hot do you set the thermostat, what is the duty cycle.

The big advantage of oil filled heaters is safety. They wont catch fire if you drape a towel over it. With a fan, convector (Or in particular a storage heater) the fire risk is much greater.

Other than that it is just an electric heater, it will consume whatever you ask of it limited only by its operational limits.

That sort of thing. Basically just a radiator filled with oil instead of water with the heater element contained inside. Stays warm for longer and probably costs less long term but not ideal for on/off repeatedly. Added safety bonus if you're the kind of person to dry wet clothes on it :D.
