Royal Mail Tracked Returns - Lost PS4

Our mailman in our work mailroom said that their commercial rates are peanuts and that they only charge the public as much as they do because they'd prefer not to do deliveries for average Joe.

He says a lot of things though, could well be BS for all I know.

Given RM recently dropped their price on 2nd class small packets shows they are competing for business.

The Post Office group which is a separate entity from RM will also play a factor in the price charged. Running 12,000 branches isn't cheap.

TBH mate you sent it on the 29th. Obviously a very busy time of year. I would hang on a couple more days and then contact Sony I bet it turns up

There is that - however it would be good if their tracking was atleast half accurately updated :S I've one order which was showing as delivered when it definitely hadn't been and another that disappeared from their systems entirely - fortunately with the 2nd one the retailer (Farnell) has spared no effort in setting it right the first one (not Farnell) is a bit more tricky but looks like I've finally managed to get it resolved (after threatening legal action :S).

EDIT: Bit of a shame really as for a pleasant change RM had been really good through 2015 right up until Christmas and then seem to have dropped the ball come New Years eve.

Just a bit of an update on this. The Post Office called me on Friday evening after I had been during lunch time and told me that they had found my package sitting with a load for Parcelforce to pick up, and of course, it wasn't picked up because it wasn't meant for them so it just sat there. They sent it next day delivery and it arrived with Cycleon on Sunday :)

Genuinely surprised at how helpful they were in sorting it!

result - I bet you are relieved!

Just a tad! Having dropped £800 on tiles and £1200 on a full kilt outfit at the weekend the thought of having to buy a new PS4 was not appealing :D

Just need to wait on it getting fixed or replaced and being sent back now.

There is no customs between Sweden and the United Kingdom, it should be in free circulation.

Of course there is! Anything that enters the country from abroad (within reason) goes through customs, it's just you won't have notice of it unless something's awry, or you're importing something you 'shouldn't'.

I've worked in international importing and exporting for 10 years, that isn't how it happens.

Under normal circumstances, goods in free circulation pass directly at borders with no intervention from HMRC.
There are no customs delays between countries like Sweden and the UK because individual shipments are not presented to customs - so there is effectively nothing to delay.

FWIW the last few tracking numbers I have been given have never been recognised on the RM tracking site but the items have arrived regardless. Maybe all is well :)

Haha yeah, getting married in May and I wanted to buy my kilt and the rest of the outfit. £1200 for a good wool and weave, navy blue tweed jacket and waistcoat and a nice belt, sporran, sgian dubh etc. Should last me the rest of my life, plus we go to a lot of events in my fiancee's home country of Denmark and it costs about £250 a time to hire for going abroad.

Anyway, PS4 delivered to Sony, all is well. Now I bet I have issues getting it back!

And outrageously expensive for anything that isn't a postcard. Wanted £25 to send a pair of shoes in a shoebox sized parcel.

A courier will do it for <£5. Unless businesses get better deals I can't understand why anybody would use them.

Realy

I sent a Neoprene Diving Drysuit by Special Delivery that weighed approx 5Kg, (probably more to be honest), and it cost me £30 with insurance for £2k.

DPD, UPS Etc all wanted nearly £100 to cover it for its value.

A pair of boots I sent Special Delivery only cost me £12.

I sent a load of beer bottles weighing more than that and bigger than a shoe box first class recorded for about a tenner, no idea how you managed that.

Saying that the woman at the post office I use all the time just looked at the box and went 'oh that counts as a large parcel'

Erm no it doesnt, a) Its a medium, check the size and b) You let me send an identical sized parcel exactly the same weight yesterday as a medium.

I think they make it up as they go along sometimes.

Yar the guy popped it on the scales and said "that'll be £25" (it was slightly less than £25 iirc).

I queried it, laughed, then left. The guy gave me the most evil look when I said I didn't want to send it after all, like I was wasting his time. The weight was nowhere near 5kg. Probably less than 2kg.

Ive always found it remarkable that you have to pay extra with royal mail to ensure they do what your already paying them to do.

You dont go to a restaurant order a meal for them to say to guarantee that it will get to you and it will still be hot youve got to pay a premium rate. By paying for a service you expect that service you shouldnt have to pay extra on the basis that their service is poor. Im shocked they are still in business
