So over the past 6 months I seem to have piled on the weight.

completely my fault been stressed out doing up my first home and so takeaway/convenience food became a staple. I have noticed I have been lethargic and my work ethic has plummeted.

Watched the Netflix documentary "Fat sick and nearly dead" where he Juice fasts for 30 days and continues on to 60 days. looses a shed load of weight and looks a hundred times healthier/happier

so I thought I would give that a go try and lose as much weight as I possibly can before my wedding in may and also see if i can kick start myself into trying to eat better.

I am on my first day going to try for 7 maybe 10 days. had one for breakfast and one on lunch an I am doing alright. normally would have visited the vending machine twice by now ontop of breakfast/elevenses/lunch.

anyone else on a diet or trying to eat healthier or done something similar? anyone had good results?

I know its a bit faddy and not really maintainable but it seems a good way to introduce a lot more veg into my diet.

Juice fasting is really not a great idea. It's not sustainable, not good for you and just generally a fad diet.

Check out the Sports Arena forum and get some real diet advice. You want to change your lifestyle in a sustainable way so you lose weight safely and can stick with the "diet" rather than instantly put all the weight back on once you stop.

Personally I would recommend instead using something like MyFitnessPal along with a modest kcal deficit and exercise. There's nothing to stop you eating lots of extra healthy food (indeed, most green veg is super low in kcal so are a great way to bulk up your meals) and this way you can maintain some variety in your diet.

whats the dangers of the juicing? surely its all going in the same way you just don't chew?
if it makes any difference Mines blended rather than juiced.

tried the Myfitnesspal approach it did my tree in updating it all the time.

My biggest problem is being a very picky eater. I have a strange problem with certain textures that just makes me gag. I can also be quite lazy when it comes to cooking which is why the juice part appealed to me quick simple get it down your neck job done.

I was only planning on doing a week to try kick start my body and shrink my stomach (if that's even a thing) as I just seem to be able to eat and keep eating. even after a big meal I am still looking for more to eat.

don't get me wrong I wouldn't consider myself obese or anything.

I am 6ft1 16.8 stone just noticed my gut is bigger than I would like it to be.

was hoping the juicing would give me them nutrients my body wants as I generally eat a lot of carbs/meat

Juicing often removes the skin which for a lot of fruit such as apples, blueberries, grapes, pears, plums etc contains fibre and a range of nutrients - so you end up with a concentrated source of sugar without the nutrients to help it digest and metabolise.

Saying that juicing does have it's place, I would just incorporate it into a healthy diet of fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Personally I would not replace a meal with just juice. My wife tends to juice daily but often things like kale, carrot, spinach which one would not normally have for breakfast and is a way she finds good to get her veg intake up. Some great recipes out there - she finds Ella Woodward's recipes good). I'm no expert on nutrition, all I know is what I've read up over the years and what has worked for me and my wife.

I've cut out processed sugar and alcohol (just going to see how long I can do it for but hopefully January and beyond) and just by that I have noticed my belt is a notch tighter and I can physically see a difference in 11 days. We've cooked with fresh ingredients and make all our own meals for years and didn't really eat much processed sugary food but cutting down that (and portion sizes), along with alcohol (perhaps a four pack in a week), I'm feeling far more energised and more alert, as well as having lost a cm or two on my waste.

Unless you are willing to make a change, even small to start, it will just carry on in the way you know is not doing you any good.

Good luck

I was having cereal for breakfast everyday which I have stopped. Found out I am slightly lactose intolerant even after a weekend of no milk my stomach looks noticeably smaller.

I had carrot/spinach/blueberry *blended so nothing gets wasted* this morning which was alright actually and felt great this morning makes a change from feeling like I'm going to pop because of the milk.

This part of your post jumps out at me, you need a change of lifestyle to achieve what you want.

I used to have fun cooking. but i bought a wreck of a house and started a job with a long commute which just killed it for me. start a new job much closer to home in 2 weeks will be back home an hour earlier every night and the house is pretty much done!

so hopefully things will change and I can get back to my energetic self again.

The main aim of this is to knock my body down to the weight It sits comfortable at. which Is why I'm trying the shift it quick approach in light of sorting my everyday diet out after the so called fast

Sorry, but in my opinion the word 'diet' is not a verb. You do not 'diet', it is simply what you eat.

If you go on a 'diet' then you will eventually give it up and revert to your old, obese ways.

It sounds like you are after a quick fix of which you will be bored with after a couple of weeks. Without attacking your main 'issues' with food (overeating, not cooking properly, snacking) you will never get yourself to a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.

Apologies for repeating other posters, but for your sake I'd like to do my bit in helping that sink in. By all means start juicing as it will help, but it's really one small part of the puzzle. And that's before anyone has even mentioned the word 'exercise' !!

O no I completely agree.

I wouldn't say I am obese even though the BMI does.
I lost a shed load of weight at the end of 2014 boxing/weight lifting but it got put to one side as everything just went a bit mental. and now i feel like I am in my best position to tackle this head on

I am not looking at juicing as being the savior of everything merely as a starting point. This is all part of the start getting my **** together after busting a nut doing the house up and being in a boring relatively office based job.

A juice or even blended with all the fibre diet, you massively over consume some micro nutrients which in it's self can be bad, massively under consumer other micronutrients, which again can be bad.
The detox and anti-oxidant malarkey is just rubbish. In fact as you consume so much anti-oxideant's, your body compensates by lowering the amount it produces, however it lowers it for almost 24hrs, so you actually have less anti oxidants, in your blood stream overall.

Then you aren't getting any fat or protein which again is bad.

On top off all that, pure carbs are not satiting so you will almost certainly feel hungry all the time.

Can you lose weight off course, but it's not a great way to go about it.
If you must go one a rapid weight loss, then there are far better methods, all though changing the way you live is a better option.

Better off eating a mix of carbs, protein and fat. From unprocessed sources you cook your self.

I feel like I am getting 0 micronutrients at the moment.

I generally felt great after having one for breakfast. Would it be a better Idea to just have one for breakfast?

my worst meal I eat is on my lunch generally processed junk crisps and chocolate. Hopefully with an extra hour in the morning I will be more prepared with eating

I was looking forward to doing this and now you have all put me off and day one has been wonderful

my dreams have been shattered :P

And how long did that feeling last? It's probably just the massive sugar rush, depending what your blending. Same reason Actively advertises makes you feel great, nothing to do with the probiotic, most of there stuff is around 9% sugar.
If you are addicted to sugar then you want to break that, rather than just turning to fruits. It's not a great feeling but soon goes after 4 or so days.

If you did it, it's a short term thing, then what, back to the old way?

Replacing a meal with it would be a far better idea than just having it, you would lose muscle weight as you aren't taking in any protein with such an extreme diet.

Lunch you can make the night before. Even make some stuff at the weekend and it'll keep, or freeze.

One lunch I like is ratatouille, with some shredded pork, lamb, beef in it. Proteins, veg, animals fats, olive oil and some carbs from the veg. Also freezes great, so pull out the freezer night before. Then chuck into microwave. That's assuming you have access to microwave. But there's hundreds of things you could do.

For me personally after terrible eating for a while, I get massive sugar cravings when trying to go healthy, found the best way is for the first few days just eat as much as you want, but healthy and low sugar, until the cravings go, then reduce the portion size. I find it more successful, than breaking and going and buying what ever your vice is.

took me through to lunch and I am ok now not starving but I am feeling hungry

i was eating pasta tuna and salad when I lost my weight last time so might start back on that for lunch. Sugar is my biggest downfall. I only drink water now apart from the odd cheeky beer once a week max, haven't had anything else in over a year.

I think Il go for some chicken brown rice and veg tonight. and try the juices for mornings to cut the milk out

I've seen the documentary too. I can see why it works, I think in the most part because you can't cheat. Whilst calorie controlled diets are easy to recommend, if you're used to eating badly it's nigh-on impossible to stick to - there will always be a snack somewhere that you think won't add too much, or a meal out that you go and try to fit into your regime etc. If you have a hard-and-fast, binary rule of nothing but juiced vegetables then I've found it much easier to stick to.

I did try the juice diet for a couple of days but just felt really ill. For me, keto (particularly 1200 calorie keto) is by far the most successful approach. From that, I take two key points

1) The diet you can actually stick to long term is the only one you need to worry about - if you can't do keto, but you can do paleo, then great
2) If you're losing weight and feel good, don't worry about all the people screaming from the sidelines that you ought to be doing something else

Don't replace meals with juice. The only time a juicer makes sense is to do soemthign like replace beer or soda with something that is marginally healthier.

Smoothies on the other hand are much better, especially if you fill it up with yoghurt, full fat milk, nuts, spinach, kale, chia seeds etc.

get a bowl, add some yogurt, put the fruit whole into the yogurt and drink some good coffee or tea. Juicing just removes the healthy part of fruit and leaves you sugar. If you are doing that you will be healthier going back to cereals.

If you really are lactose intolerant (its quite rare, you can get yourself tested to verify), then just do soemthign tasty like fry up some eggs and have a portion of whole fruit and some nuts on the side.

how does it remove the healthy part? everything from the fruit is going in. I don't use a juicer I am using a nutribullet style blender

I do not think I am completely intolerant but somethings no quite right. I was going for a number 2 around 4-5 times a day. since stopping milk on friday I am going once maybe twice.

I cant stand yogurt its absolutely vile!

I do have an omelette some times for breakfast.

Today I went for a pasta salad for lunch and had a juice for breakfast feeling pretty good today.

Decided small changes are probably best for now and keep working away at parts of my diet

I rarely drink milk, had a glass few weeks ago for the first time in probably a year and was on the toilet most of the evening. Bit of a surprise seeing how I eat plenty of dairy in other forms from yoghurt to ice cream and cheese, sauces, so on.

Have a juicer myself but it's not part of any daily routine and even less so after I got my cheap little blender, that one actually has changed my diet. I know I mentioned yoghurt but as you I actually don't like it and same goes for things like oats too.

Having the blender now means I can simply chuck a lot of ingredients together into something that is very quickly to make, consume and also tastes good not to mention needs minimal cleanup. Actually starting to get to a point where as many as two of my meals a day are from a blender and currently on a lookout for one that can blend my steak for me ;)

One of my favourites right now is a fruit one I normally eat around lunch which is:

300ml water
30g oats
Tablespoon of chia seeds
Banana
50g frozen berries of my choice
150g Skyr yoghurt

Plenty of fibre, fruit and I get to consume things that I don't like to eat separately. Skyr yoghurt is actually really thick, almost quark like and provides a nice thick consistency for the smoothie as does the banana so can use those ingredients as a base to make just about anything you like. All in all works out as a very cheap lunch too, currently working from home but think I'd want to bring my smoothie maker with me if I was working in an office!

When I'm feeling a little "green" or don't fancy eating a salad I can use those ingredients to make something like:

300ml water
50-75g spinach
Half avocado (Tesco sell these frozen)
Banana

There, simple as that and is actually very tasty not to mention nutritious. Sometimes throw in oats and chia seeds too if I feel like it but found that adding frozen berries just muddles the flavour too much.
