I won an Imac 5k! best way to get dual boot with win 7?

Entered a competition on a rival parts site before Christmas and got incredibly lucky and won an Imac 5k 27 with the 2tb hard drive. I've not had a mac before so all of my games are on steam and for pc so I'd like the option to dual boot so I can play then still.

Is there a preferred method of doing this? Is there a version of Windows that works best?
 
Yeah as said use BootCamp.

Is the Mac already in your possession then?

Not sure if there would be a way for you to swap the 2TB HDD or add an SSD for the OS? I know you could do something similar in older iMac's but not sure about these newer 5K ones. SSD for OS is a must for me, makes everything so snappy.

I already have it. It's a 2tb fusion which is a hybrid ssd isn't it?

Correct, however it's driven by firmware/software on OSX. This means if you install Windows via Bootcamp, it'll only install on the regular rotational drive.
 
I wouldn't bother with BootCamp unless you're gaming or something. Honestly, Parallels/VMWare Fusion is brilliant at virtualising windows, and non of the rebooting shenanigans.

If it's your only Mac and you don't plan on getting on more OSX devices, I'd go with Parallels. If you plan on getting more than get Fusion as it's licensed per user not per machine, as per parallels.
 
Given the OP has said he specifically wants Windows for gaming, dual booting is absolutely what he should do. Bootcamp is the best way to do it and is very easy. I think you're probably best using Windows 8 as Windows 7 requires some silly faffing due to not having built in USB 3 drivers on the install disc.
 
I'd definitely just be using the win boot to play games that wouldn't run on anything else and then os x for video/photo editing/browsing etc so i'll check out bootcamp first.

Shame win7 isn't any good as it's what I prefer though.
 
Depending on which version of OS X is on there you may be able to make it work with some fiddling. There's probably a guide out there.
