used hardware

is there no way I could access or see whats being sold on MM ?

It would be perfect if I could look through if I cnat do that can I post a thread asking if any one is selling XYZ ? ha

depends what the part is and the overall cost, my main computer is all new, but thinking of a used 500gb slower hdd as while the 1tbh of fast hdd i have is good, the extra space for additional storage be good and at £12 its a good buy, other than a 2nd hand card with extra memory, i wouldnt buy used unless i was desperate or building a cheap gaming computer or i wanted an i5 and couldnt justify new costs.

you do get what you pay for more so if its not from a 2nd hand shop.

I have used many a second hand GPU over the years and apart from a loose fitting cooler on a 9800PRO [easy fix] I have had no problems, not had a used GPU since a 8800GT I put in a media centre some time ago. I needed a cheap card with a audio though DVI, and capable of the playing older games, still going strong not bad for a tenner

A lot of my system is 2nd hand. I've bought and sold hardware on MM and eBay - both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I can't think of anything I wouldn't buy 2nd hand. Now I have MM access I doubt I will buy a new CPU or GPU ever again.

The only new bought parts in my system are the gpu and case. Everything else including my monitor were bought secondhand. Keyboard and mouse bought new as well though.

unless its from the MM as im sure they are all respectable people, if you do buy used try to do it from 2nd hand shops because depending on part you can return if faulty more easily than say the bay.

The only things in my PC setup which I didn't buy second hand at some point, are the storage drives, and the graphics card. Oh and my mouse.

Case, motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, RAM, SSD, PSU, sound card, monitor, keyboard, and even my dust filters, were bought second hand! Value for money (yo) :p

Thing is, buying isnt the issue, its selling, just sold a motherboard to a an absolute idiot who is now trying to return it due to him probably F'ing it on the way in or something, he claims the RAM ports are dead but worked 100% putting it in!
ANYWAYS, second hand is always good, and generally you can get some very very good deals... Just have a check if on shmebay at their recently sold items to check for mining cards as some people absolutely wrecked them! Basically look out for them selling anything suspicious such as a stupidly low end CPU with a motherboard with loads of ports, and tons of mostly R9 290's (or just AMD cards)!
Just be careful, check their feedback etc and ebay always rule in the buyers favour, and thats why I hate selling on their, a lot of scams happen, but also a lot of genuine people, take your pick and investigate before buying to avoid hassle!
To summarize, yeah you can get awesome deals on 2nd hand places, just be wise when buying!

There's nothing second hand in my current PC but I have bought second hand components in the past and would definitely buy second hand parts again if I found them for the right price. Especially CPUs. I've only ever had one issue with a second hand part, and that was a motherboard, which for some reason caused my PC to freeze randomly every couple of hours.

Yeah I don't think I would ever buy a second hand motherboard to be honest, GPU's and CPU's, yeah no problem.

I just feel theres always so much more that can go wrong with a motherboard.

There is, but aslong as the seller is honest, and the person knows how to actually install it, nothing can possibly go wrong!

I didn't mean with regards to dodgy sellers, sorry.

I meant more the fact of a limited lifespan of components and then the multitude of components located on a motherboard. Too risky for me personally as its an absolute ball ache replacing a motherboard.

My whole PC is second hand :p

No but seriously I tend to only buy second hand parts if I can if they're cheap enough. My budget is always relatively low and there's a lot of people who only tolerate owning cutting edge hardware so there's the option to get a high spec PC for much less than I'd pay had it been new.

On certain sites there are sellers actually selling refurbished motherboards (usually where there were broken pins that they've re-soldered on). I wouldn't touch them... but there are significant savings to be made in buying.
